Delicious local favourites @ Basikal, Bangsar

This quiet rooftop cafe, also another one of Bangsar’s hole in the wall has been operating under the radar for a while now. Serving warung like home cooked dishes, Makan at The Basikal is one of the coolest hangout places with steeped stairways through a back alleyway with unknown drips and cars parked recklessly. Actually worth lingering in, you’d be real surprise with what you see once arriving at the highest level where the little open kitchen and comfortable benches are.

Typically served with rice noodles, Terengganu Laksa (RM 6) here is made of highly satisfying fish gravy and unlike the spicy red variant of laksa we all know, this creamy white gravy laksa is not easily accessible in Klang Valley. And unless you know where to find them, the usual places that serves good fragrant Terengganu Laksa is with no signage and probably not mapped on Google either. So this one makes it real convenient.

And if curry noodle is what tickles your fancy then you’ve also come to the right place. The place is humbly run by a lovely lady and everything is done with home recipe, making the food comfy and homey. Cooked to order, the Curry Noodle (RM 7) is easy to consume, not thick and rich with santan and comes only with honest fresh ingredients, infused with perfect balance of spicy umami and aroma.

I sure enjoyed the noodles very much but they were never as memorable as the Nasi Lemak Telur Mata (RM 5). Its aromatic, lightly complemented with delicious condiments and vegetables to make it wholesome and at the same time satisfying. The toppings are typically the usual on nasi lemak except the vegetable here isn’t the usual kangkung but long beans. With extra moist from their sambal and the runny custard yolk from the sunny side up, every bite was a medley delight.

The beverages didn’t quite earn too much bragging rights but humbly low profiled is much loved because it subtly represents the rich local culture. Whats served as the local favourites are the usual kopi and teh, as well as milo and nescafe. I went with the Bandung (RM 2.50) to fulfill the sugar crave and just cause I’m feeling pink. The place is consciously decked in such to resemble a warung but with a hippy touch of clever use of bicycles, making this a good theme for the place.
