Pork Rendang Nasi Kerabu at ANTE @ Solaris Dutamas

Celebrating patriotism with Pork Rendang Nasi Kerabu .Love it or hate it, this vibrant blue rice leaves a memorable impression upon the first sight. It is not unusual to see one but it is rare, and when spotted one, will be difficult to take your eyes off it. Served with ulam, the mix of flavour profile from the assorted raw vegetables that is being cut and chopped into tiny pieces puts together so much excitement on a single plate. Here at ANTE, kerabu meal is prep with some oink factor and the main protein source in this fiber and vitamin loaded portion meal is of course non other than their signature – pork. They celebrate patriotism this year with kerabu with pork rendang and I must say they are indeed some porky doyen when it comes to handling and serving them fresh in your dishes.

That is further confirmed when they rolled out other pork dishes and there’s absolutely a couple of it that was impressive. Pork come in all forms of cooking method—roasted, grilled, or even some frying until sizzling, with some being quintessential pork lover’s fav and some fusion twist that’ll guarantee salivating. And together with some booze, would be another perfect evening. Chermoula Spiced Pork Shoulder Steak was grilled so perfectly for amazing tenderness I will order this again anytime with add ons of more vegetables, not because I simply want my vege but because I also love their zucchini sides. Iberico Baby Ribs and House Smoked Bacon were charming. Meat is incredibly tender rand juicy, every bite tastes like luxury.

Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Uptown

Nasi kukus is probbaly one of the most eaten dish in the country. Whether it is lunch or dinner, or even breakfast, we love this dish very dearly indeed. Nasi kukus lejen at Damansara Upotwn is conveniently the place to seek this comfort dish. Serving in paper wrap instead of plates, the best way to eat it is with your hands. The warm steamed rice topped with spicy sambal, together with a delicious piece of ayam goreng berempah is one of the most satisfying meals especially on a Sunday for late brunch.

1.Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Uptown
2.Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Uptown

You would normally get a random chicken part but I am sure you can request for your favourite part. I usually like my chicken rib. And for a price of RM 6.50 for either the Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Kunyit or Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah, one should not complain too much on the inconsistency. We sound that some chicken pieces can be a little dry although mine was tender and delicious. The silvers of pineapple added to the dish was really helpful brining out so much more flavour to their sambal and the spicy easily gets you salivating non-stop.

4.Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Uptown

Those who are not in favourable to spicy food can help yourself with their beverage but I recommend skipping that. After all, we are in Damansara uptown. You can cool it off with some icy dessert within the enclave. I can tell you anyone of those is way better than what they have to offer here. Our corn drink has an obvious taste of chlorine but it was subtle in the Coconut Shake maybe because it was overpowered by the vanilla scoop in it.

5.Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Uptown

Definitely returning for the nasi kukus with cat fish, I would say this could easily be my next favourite spot for nasi kukus. The curry and sambal were too addictive indeed. Plus, the cheap prices and quick service make this place a winner.

Delicious local favourites @ Basikal, Bangsar

This quiet rooftop cafe, also another one of Bangsar’s hole in the wall has been operating under the radar for a while now. Serving warung like home cooked dishes, Makan at The Basikal is one of the coolest hangout places with steeped stairways through a back alleyway with unknown drips and cars parked recklessly. Actually worth lingering in, you’d be real surprise with what you see once arriving at the highest level where the little open kitchen and comfortable benches are.

1.Basikal @ Bangsar

2.The Basikal @ Bangsar

Typically served with rice noodles, Terengganu Laksa (RM 6) here is made of highly satisfying fish gravy and unlike the spicy red variant of laksa we all know, this creamy white gravy laksa is not easily accessible in Klang Valley. And unless you know where to find them, the usual places that serves good fragrant Terengganu Laksa is with no signage and probably not mapped on Google either. So this one makes it real convenient.

3.The Basikal @ Bangsar

4.The Basikal @ Bangsar

And if curry noodle is what tickles your fancy then you’ve also come to the right place. The place is humbly run by a lovely lady and everything is done with home recipe, making the food comfy and homey. Cooked to order, the Curry Noodle (RM 7) is easy to consume, not thick and rich with santan and comes only with honest fresh ingredients, infused with perfect balance of spicy umami and aroma.

5.The Basikal @ Bangsar

6.The Basikal @ Bangsar

I sure enjoyed the noodles very much but they were never as memorable as the Nasi Lemak Telur Mata (RM 5). Its aromatic, lightly complemented with delicious condiments and vegetables to make it wholesome and at the same time satisfying. The toppings are typically the usual on nasi lemak except the vegetable here isn’t the usual kangkung but long beans. With extra moist from their sambal and the runny custard yolk from the sunny side up, every bite was a medley delight.

7.The Basikal @ Bangsar

8.The Basikal @ Bangsar

The beverages didn’t quite earn too much bragging rights but humbly low profiled is much loved because it subtly represents the rich local culture. Whats served as the local favourites are the usual kopi and teh, as well as milo and nescafe. I went with the Bandung (RM 2.50) to fulfill the sugar crave and just cause I’m feeling pink. I got them compiled on my story vlog here:

The place is consciously decked in such to resemble a warung but with a hippy touch of clever use of bicycles, making this a good theme for the place.

Hameediyah Nasi Kandar @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

Think Nasi Kandar and it probably has already staked a name for itself in Penang as one of the signature Malaysia-Indian cuisine. Packaged in a fast-food-style dining, Hammediyah Nasi Kandar in Kota Damansara is now serving hot and fiery in Sunway Nexis, the notorious hotbed of eateries.

1.Hameediyah Nasi Kandar @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

When navigating through this heavily saturated enclave, Hammediyah Nasi Kandar stands out in bright yellow and pleasant green, with tidy seats and tall ceiling with warm lighting and a delicious wafting scent of spices. We often see nasi kandar stalls with mamak, traditionally wearing a sarung on the waist and friendly smile beneath that moustache. Here, it is represented on the walls to making it family friendly to dine in. Eat outdoor when it is breezy, or dine on mezzanine level for a bit more privacy.

2.Hameediyah Nasi Kandar @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

If the fancy décor gives you any doubt on the authenticity of the dishes, fret not. Instead, be rest assured that the simmering meats and golden rice grains is one hundred percent Malaysian comfort food at its best. Fresh serving from the high turnover (from the perpetual line of diners) is amazing, and what’s more impressive is the hint of rich spices in those generous chunks of meats meshed every plate of our meal.

4.Hameediyah Nasi Kandar @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

Add on more dishes when sharing- I like my sotong and papadum. It’s incredible this generously- portioned dish with a drink causes about RM 15 with meats, vegetables, eggs, etc. Don’t forget to complete the meal with soothing sweet and delightful teh tarik before leaving happy.

Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar

We don’t have that great bakso variant like those in Indonesia but Bakso Monster in Bangsar is serving us gigantic serving size at such fantastic pricing. While bakso is traditionally sold on the street by travelling vendors in Indonesia, Bakso Monster here takes over Jan’s outlet to serve not only delicious monster sized meals, but comfy ambiance as well.

3.Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar

Sure there is nothing exotic about this location, with tons of cafes and eateries popping up every now and then. Bangsar has always been upscale and expensive, but the authentic Indonesian cooking steals the show. Menu as such is rare, just a choice of four to six dishes. And at this pricing, a ten ringgit will comfortably feed one pax. These homemade Bakso with any choice of noodle and soup cost RM 9.90. Pick from either glass noodle, yellow noodle or horse fun noodle, to go with either clear soup, sup tulang, or tomyam.

6.Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar

There is option to add on Bakso (RM 7) or noodle (RM 2) as well as vegetables (RM 2)or kerupuk pangsit (RM 3) but be rest assured that additional bakso isn’t necessary. And those fiery hot and spicy chili sauces and sambal, they are to die for.

7.Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar

After those Monster meatballs and Monster beverages, sweet finishing should be regular sized so I went with the small serving of Monster Murtabak (RM 6) but it wasn’t as satisfying as the monster bakso, not because of the serving size but the taste. Let’s just say that desserts are not their forte.

9.Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar

Both food and beverage menu fit in a single page on their menu, and those monster specialty are crazy huge. They mean it monster when it’s called monster.

Bakso Monster the Fattest Bakso in Town @ Bangsar MENU

Both Monster Tea (RM 3.50) and Monster Teh Tarik (RM 5.50) are jumbo sized. It is a lot more obvious on video so watch it on my snap chat (@sycookies )- they were HUGE.
