Eatomo Food Co. @ Taman Danau Desa

Some say the best Japanese dining experience is omakase and that freshness is ultimately the only precision to a good Japanese cuisine. There is no doubt that Eatomo at Desa Petaling gets a good reputation when it comes to fresh fish, there is still something more than just that to define a good Japanese meal.

In this case, probably some more effort in taking the essential of art seriously when it comes to presentation. Don’t expect pretty platters of your already attractive looking and glistening slices of fish along with pretty dots of wasabi, or any sprinkles of ebiko or nori flakes. Instead, ready to go servings are what you’ll be getting.

For a start, the place is comfortable enough for staple meals and there are no high end ingredients but expect the bill to reflect your consumption of sashimi or oysters because the fresh cut of thick sashimi and that slurp of juicy oysters can be a lot of joy when eating them. Both Salmon Sashimi Box (RM 19.90) or the Salmon Toro Box (RM 19.90) are among the spanking fresh culls for that no gimmick Japanese meal. And at the same time, cooked seafood is tasty diversions as well. Fried Oyster Basket w Homemade Tartar Sauce (RM 19.90) presents itself in 5 pieces and there is something about oysters that hooks me so with or without the sauce is fine.

Anyone up for something more wholesome or suitable for solo dining can go for udon or rice bowls. Gyudon + Onsen Tamago (RM 17.90) uses prime Australian beef slices but I don’t think it should be the reason to visit. Even the usually appealing Salmon Ikura Don (RM 23.90) were underpinned by excellent cut of sashimi earlier.

The lighter add on for the day is Tofu wake me Wafu Salad (RM 13.90) and the Japanese Peruvian ceviche with Guacamole (RM 24.90) and served with a side tortilla chips. Let’s be honest here, we all know the reason why this two dishes are being ordered. I need my vege and I obviously cannot resist avocado. They are no signature, and definitely not remarkable but if you have to, then why not?

Lastly, together with me was Alyssia and we all know that she is the dessert queen. So naturally the limited quantity of signature Sakurai Raindrop Cake (RM 14.90) made its way to our table. Even though not a fan of this particular dessert, I caught myself dabbing up every bit of the Injeolmi powder.

Wine, soju, beer or sake can be your pairing but we are having the House Special Yogurt Soju (RM 33) that is somewhat a little too sweet to my liking but the large bottle at its selling price is good for group dinning.
