Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

Food trends don’t end under any circumstances and the recent salted egg yolk craze are now in Madame Waffle. From Asian dishes like custard buns to the western delights like croissants; and now waffle, the trend still currently ongoing and picking up fast. Salted egg yolk has really proven its capability to blend with any food and now it’s gotten to waffles but whether or not this hybrid is worthy of the calories? Here is what we are about to find out.

1.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

When I was told there is salted egg yolk waffle with salted egg yolk ice cream, I’m thinking no way. Then I found out its real, Madame Waffle launched their own rendition of the coveted sauce- one that simple goes well with everything and anything bizarre, is the latest addition to this renown waffle joint. Salted Egg Yolk Waffle here will soon launch many a gushing Instagram post not only with their pretty plating, but the hypnotising thick golden yellow custard that escorts. Salted egg yolk wasn’t intense but was prominently obvious to many and at the same time inconspicuous to salted egg yolk devotee.

2.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

And get ready for the fear factor challenge (or a dive into paradise if you are huge durian fan) when the Musang Durian Crème Brulee is served right before your eyes. Or, you can smell it as it is being prepared. You would find a generous lump of durian Brulee, so a thin crusty crystallised sugar layer would crack to have a medley texture of both creamy luscious and crackling crisp.

3.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

The spotlight must be their Matcha Signature . Hands down and hats off such consistency in the lovely texture – light but never too airy or dense in anyway. Tiramisu Waffle didn’t appeal to me, only because I am not a fan of tiramisu. But, know that they pull things off with waffles alone (Matcha and Cinnamon Classic Waffles) , satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

6.But know that they pull things off with waffles alone, satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

Let’s not forget the lovely flavour of those Ferrero Rocher Delight, every chocolate fan would approve this. Fruits topping balances the bitter sweet of chocolate and even though not as generous, the toppings blends beautifully both on the plate, and on the palate.

7.But know that they pull things off with waffles alone, satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

Beverage menu offers a medley of creativity with things like Passionfruit Mint Soda, Ice Matcha Blended,Lemonade Soda, and caffeine drinks. Once again, barista Feng was present so naturally coffee is a must.

Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar @ Damansara Uptown

Cooling treats already made icy impact on Klang Valley’s dessert parlors and Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar at Damansara Uptown is part of the trend setting initiator. It seems to me this fluffy soft ice cream craze is here to stay for good- it was packed at 8pm when I visited.

Trying out the classic cereal milk softserve series, where they cleverly soaked cereal into milk before churning into softserve to produce that familiar fragrant you’ll take awhile to recall before figuring out that it came from cereal. Or, you can simple read this on their menu except that one is probably too busy being intimidated by the amount of choices on this series alone. A modern interpretation of the mini parfait here showcases Honey Matcha (RM 16), with a swirl of your honey match soft serve made into royalty with addition of Royce’ R cholate, and Royce’ baton cookies. Dig in and you’ll find cubes of milk jelly and yogurt espuma, and at the same time made beautiful with the black sesame crumble lining the swirl.

Churros Oolong (RM 12) obviously comes with churros still warm and crunchy when serve on our soft served ice cream.

2.Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar @ Damansara Uptown

Something a little more solid would be the Crispy and Fluffy Waffle (RM 15) which by the way isn’t the best waffle ever but managed to redeemed its reputation with none other than their soft serve and sauce of your choice (in this case is match sauce since WendLi , the matcha queen is one of the partner in crime this time around). This one is served with chopped nuts and berries.

4.Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar @ Damansara Uptown

Fluffly (RM 10) turned out obviously as per named, with a big afro of cotton candy over your swirl of soft serve and sprinkled with Himalayan rock salt to enticed the tongue for tinges of saltiness when salt meets the saliva in the midst of cottony sweet.

5.Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar @ Damansara Uptown

Underneath this one, we went with their pleasant textured creamy finishing of deep chocolate. Dark bitterness would please the chocolate fan but compared to the cereal selection, lack an apparent fragrant of cereal aroma.

Square Q Cafe (I am not Waffle) @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Square Q Café is one of the first few of the original maker of mochi waflle in Klang Valley. Raised from Mont Kiara and currently based in Solaris Mont Kiara’s highly saturated café enclave, they have cheeky tag line that emphasizes that they are not waffle despite how they mirror actual waffle.

1.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

Made with pure milk, it is crispy on the outside and chewy; very similar to mochi but tastier and more interesting with the waffle grooves. One can relay this to moffle- popular Japanese snack made of glutinous rice pounded into a paste and pressed hot irons for warm chewiness with a tact goo within the crispy outer layer. These grids are lovely eaten alone (RM 5 each) or when it is served with fruits and gelato scoops.

2.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Square Q serving comes in 3 options – 1 Square Q + fruits (RM 7) , 1 Square Q + fruits + 1 scoop gelato (RM 13), 2 Square Q+ fruits + 2 Scoop gelato (RM 24); with choices of flavours for your waffles (original, green tea, banana, chocolate, coffee, cranberry, and yogurt) . And, your gelato choices to be selected from either premium vanilla, to Double chocolate, or peanut butter to the oriental favourite- black sesame.

3.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara

2 Square Q+ fruits + 2 Scoop gelato (RM 24)

Waffle isn’t the only thing even though that’s essentially their crowd drawer at the
Square Q cafe. I am much impressed with Q-Egg Toast (RM8)- thick homebaked baguette slices soaked in milk before being pan toasted into lovely textured castella from within and slight crisp film outer coat. Served drizzled with honey and light dust of sugar, this is the best french toast I’ve had to date in Solaris Mont Kiara.

And because there is a pastry chef in the family, fresh and top quality cakes are inevitable. Swiss roll of more than substantial thickness pleasantly impresses anyone who passes the glass fronted fridge. Sink your teeth into mild sweetness nicely balanced with astringent green tea flavour that lingers a little in between each bite.

6.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Taking pride in the freshest and finest ingredients, everything that’s served is best of what they can provide. Even though with some outsourced item and commercial processed goods on their All day breakfast (RM20) plate, serving is up and out only upon ordered.

7.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara

While you are at it, look for their homemade wholesome energy boaster- Artisan Yogurt (RM 6 for plain, RM 8 with muesli/Oreo/fruits of the day, RM 10 with a mix of 2 from muesli, Oreo or fruits of the day. This one is wallet friendly for that creamy and silky with generous amount of berries in it.

8.Square Q Café @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Beverage menu were idiosyncratic if not eccentric. Serving some good range including milkshakes and pure juices, to tea and coffee, and some real nice Mocktail Ice tea (RM 12) or Freddo(RM 12), there ought to be something for everybody.

Grid & Go Waffle Kiosk @ 1 Utama (One U)

Located slap bang in the middle of walkway at the GSC cinema, Grid and Go in One Utama (1U) shopping mall is prepared to take waffle into a grab and go trend with swift and quick operational team, offering freshest of fine waffles. Serving a fantastic specialty series and premium series at RM 6 and RM 7 each, these light munches are great bites to take and go in convenient eating sizes. Plus, the servings are totally smuggle friendly (ahem..)

1. grid and go 1u

Menu is simple and perfect to accommodate quick and fast ordering, and keeping the menu simple is currently brilliant. And of course, these goodies are prominent carbo so pair that with their house signatures, all served in grab to go paper or plastic cups. I’d say coffee connoisseur to please stay away from their coffee but it certainly is harmless for that caffeine fix. The Sparkling Yuzu juice (RM 5.50) is clever and refreshing, most importantly is guilt free without those extra sugar because the sparkle was merely carbon and not soft soda beverages.

2.grid and go 1utama
3. Grid and go waffle 1 utama

With expedient working space to prep the waffles at speedy pace, each grab is lovely and fresh; with fantastic texture slightly sugar coated on the outside for that extra crisp which is perfect especially when it cooled.

4.Grid and go waffle 1 utama
5.Grid and go waffle 1 utama

Ultimately, Grid & Go emphasizes on authenticity and having quick waffles to grab and go means no fancy toppings; instead, these Belgian dough were dense and chewy on the inside and crispy outside with clever options of either the house specialty or the premium series to offer. With difference of RM 1, premium has more intense fragrant momentously coming from layered pasteurized cream.

Paddle and Beans @ Taman Kota Syahbandar (Melaka)

Paddle and beans at Taman Kota Syahbandar Melaka is another place for the locals to enjoy both local dishes and some western favourites to cater the younger crowd. With bi-folding glass door separating air conditioning indoor from the airy outdoor seating, and high chairs at a bigger communal table, the natural lighting penetrative every corner of those cafe gives it a lovely vibe.

2.Paddle and Beans Melaka
3. Paddle and Beans Melaka

The food however wasn’t as welcoming as their ambiance. Their mains vary from typical local signatures like nyonya laksa to typical café favourites like burgers and wraps but we can totally eliminate the local delights (you’ll get more authentic nyonya dishes within few hundreds of meters). Chicken wrap is a joy thanks to the tangy pineapple chunks wrapped inside their tortilla. Alas, pronounced improvisations obviously in need since this clearly isn’t their best work.

4.Paddle and Beans Melaka

Same goes to the Truffle Fries, it was too sloppy for any approval, in fact this chintzy attempt was a real disappointment. Truffle were almost non existing in this truffle fries and it might as well be named parmesan fries since it was simply just ordinary fries served with grated parmesan.

5.Paddle and Beans Melaka

Waffle trend hit the state last year but their Waffle (RM 14.90) also didn’t leave any impression although it could be a good pick for light bites or food for in between meals. But, I do like the effort of them tossing with almond flakes and serving with ice cream scoops.

6.Paddle and Beans Melaka

And with a long way more to master the skill of brewing, their attempt to serve an assortment of brews was much applaudable though. From teas to coffee, Mocha is the champ when competing against other beverages like the very bland Green tea latte (RM 9.90) and the very ordinary White ginger lily (RM 7.90). Espresso press is the only coffee brew available at the moment. Hand brews maybe not necessary just yet, not before they have well trained baristas.

7.Paddle and Beans Melaka
8.Paddle and Beans Melaka

Dining is comfortable with friendly staffs (the kind of love typical Malaccans would show) ready to serve but they certainly need drastic improvements when it comes to food. Parking is currently easy and convenient.

Madame Waffle @ 1Utama Shopping Mall

Madame Waffle in 1Utama (1u) opens to offer waffle as snack and like their Midvalley, Gardens and IOI City’s outlet, they are the quintessential kiosk café in malls, complete with neat dining table and the continuous grow of coffee bar. Being the first artisan Belgian waffle using Japanese ingredients, patrons get the finest ingredients freshly baked daily on site to cater to both the fast moving pace and leisure indulgence.

1.Madame Waffle @ 1Utama

At the recent launch of their fourth outlet at 1Utama, classic waffles (original, matcha, chocolate, honey, tiramisu, cinnamon and coffee) that are good to grab and go, as well as their dine in waffles (Peanut butter crunch, coffee tiramisu, banana nutella and madame signature) were all equally attractive, especially with the fresh-out-of oven smell pilling and wafting in the air at their open kitchen.

2.Madame Waffle in 1Utama
3.Madame Waffle in 1Utama

Dine in waffles are coveted item for sure. Fresh and neat texture with toppings and ice cream with seasonal berries (and if you are lucky, limited edition Musang King Durian) gracefully plated to serve. As you know, durian really isn’t my thing but I can assure all you durian lovers out there amidst any outlandish flavours, the best move is to embrace this Musang King Durian Series because you’ll never regret it.

4.Madame Waffle in 1Utama

Tiramisu Waffle (RM 11) is perfect for any coffee lover, the waffle served powdered with cocoa and beautiful berries plated around it is not only something that’ll look good in your instagram feed, but also a good measure for in indulgence.

5.Madame Waffle in 1Utama
6.Madame Waffle in 1Utama

Those were yet the highlight of the day. I’ve already had their upcoming item that will clog up your social media feeds by the time they launched it then, in a couple more days (sometime in August). Three waffle each inspired by Disney’s magical flight of the imagination, and of course I am totally in love with Snow White. With Earl grey ice cream reign on top stacks of waffle cutlets, that amazing tangy sweet and pretty in pink dressing on the plate, this one is with crispy edges still smoky from the griddle and will only be available at the 1Utama outlet.

7.Madame Waffle in 1Utama-01

Drifting away from the Belgium waffle to also cater to mass crowd who loves crispy waffles, they mean it when they say crispy. Cinderella here promises absolute clean and neat of course and no need to wait for fairy god mother to grant your sweet extravagance. Blending the right recipe to form the airy and light crisp, while beautifully presented with slices of banana and the berries, and magically dusted with sugar powder for absolute viewing pleasure.

8.Madame Waffle in 1Utama

And if that’s not good enough, unleash your creativity and build your own waffle master piece with your choices of toppings.

9.Madame Waffle in 1Utama

Pair your waffles with your favourite coffee or tea and if you are lucky, Feng – the 2013 Malaysia Aeropress Champion may just be your barista.
