Eatomo Publika

Poke bowl. Pronounced as ‘po- kay’, is a Hawaiian dish commonly mistaken as Japanese origin because of the fresh raw cuts of fishes. The confusion probably happened because of the similar dishes by the Japanese – most likely zuke Don or donburi, and that most of us were more familiar with Japanese food as the cuisine gained its popularity over the years. While it may seem like a new trend, this simple and addictive Hawaiian dish has been around for centuries. And because local Japanese in Hawaii is a big ethnic group in Hawaii, it is no surprise of the influence in their food.

Up until 2015, we haven’t caught wind of this Hawaiian dish but when pokebowl becomes widely accepted (thanks to social media), people started being creative and infusing local elements to redefine the dish. Take note the real Hawaiian poke though, isn’t really instagrammable. So, this one is close.

Meet the Pokelantan Bowl. Here at the Eatomo Solaris Dutamas, this one is made with the usual raw cuts of fish before finishing with a toss of lime and chili padi drizzle marinate, this truly is a marriage of Asian pacific. Resembling local dishes, the combination in this bowl is bursting full when it comes to the authentic Asian flavour.

Another amazing protein source for those not too keen with raw fishes, Mentaiko Tamago rice is a good satisfaction although I find the portion a little small to fit the huge appetite I had during my visit. Personally, I like my mentaiko just as they are, but most are probably more accustomed to slightly more diluted flavour profile so having this with them thick slices of egg omelette and fragrant rice is topgallant.

That wasn’t the only crowd pleaser, fresh oysters and mussels come with the breeze of ocean and sea. The plump and juicy oyster of a perfect one mouth bite size was my ultimate favourite, followed closely by the pot of mussel with that fancy sweet flavourful broth of nothing but pleasant.

Meaty bowls are inevitable, but for anyone dying to have raw leaves then you might have to pick any of their salad bowl, which I really don’t recommend unless if the determination to improve wellbeing of your gut is the main concern. Salads are like many other Japanese eatery, boring and unattractive.

8. Eatomo Publika

Seemingly trivial, but food is a way of life in the country and the ethnic diversity has resulted in such extraordinary food landscape. Who would have think that poke, a product of the indigenous native Hawaiian culture would fit perfect with the touch of Kelantan? This outlet gave me a better experience than the their first in Taman Danau Desa outlet for sure and at this blog entry point, there is a third outlet at Bangsar !!

How to style and snack on healthier desserts -Alternative snacking with nuts made interesting with some nice cream!

We’ve all heard of how nuts are supposedly a healthier alternative to snacking junk food but we are also at the same time aware of how they can be dull and a little boring at times. What we don’t know is that nuts can be a satisfying snack given their high contained nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium. At the same time also loaded with important macro nutrient like protein. I really don’t want to jump into all the science talk but keeping things in short, I am sharing what I have been snacking on every now and then.

Eating raw is best when it comes to most of the food but let’s admit it. We love that little spark in life and that extra indulgence when it comes to food. I still enjoy that extra indulgence when it comes to food. But having a job like mine requires intense discipline when it comes to food intake. And that’s why I still indulge when it comes to snacking. I pair them with a little bit of nice cream and some goodness of fruits.

Cherry Smoothie

Smoothie bowl is now more than just a new favourite or some might have labeled it as an obsession for me but they are actually not just a favourite breakfast or dessert- they’ve officially became a creative outlet much like a canvas to paint my kinda art. I mean the fun to design the top of the bowl is satisfying and really getting my artistic brain cells working hard. I mostly put in a lot of thought from my styling and plating and it is no doubt that desserts and sweet food makes the prettiest appearance. So, the gorgeous toppings aside. The base are the ones that’s really challenging because it is what determines the taste, texture, colour, and most importantly nutritious.

Speaking of nutrients, I made a cherry-based smoothie bowl when cherries were in season some time ago. Cherries are known to be loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols that help fight disease, on top of the rich vitamin C and fiber. Being a natural food source of melatonin, which can help to improve sleep, cherries are all rounded essentially good for us. Though, I wouldn’t recommend excessive consumption because they are also fairly high in sugar. Those who followed me through my journey on Instagram would also know that I recommend moderate intakes on top of matching ingredients in all my bowls.

Cherry Smoothie Bowl

Here is a good tip to mellow the sweet in your smoothie bowls. Use bananas that are slightly under ripe and include some oats for a thicker consistency. Not only that would help with the taste, the oats would give the extra fill to last longer throughout the morning.

Enjoy this cherry bowl recipe. And even though I didn’t decorate them much yet when the photos are taken, I include the recommended toppings so maybe you all can try decorating yours and tag me on Instagram?

INGREDIENTS
• 2 cups of frozen cherries, pitted
• 1 frozen banana
• 2 Tbs oats
• ¼ cup coconut water

Blend everything as smoothie base.

Topping
• Bukinis
• Assorted nuts
• Chia seed
• Cherry
• Banana
• Blueberries

Plant based protein in smoothie bowls- Granola Geeks x Soluxe Protein

It is becoming obvious now that I’ve been sharing them on insta stories and sometimes on the ig feed. But for those who are still unsure of ways to use proteins simply as meal replacement or to keep you full for a longer time, this is the recipe that would help bring smoothie bowls to a whole new level. I’ve been getting dms and sometimes mails asking me on what’s the best way to add protein to the smoothie bowls when I thought it was something generally known – something I never thought off cause I’ve been casually adding proteins to my fruit bowls for the longest time ever.

There are many ways to fuel the morning with clean and nutritional ingredients and adding lots of fruits to it isn’t the healthiest way to start your morning. This is a misconception people have for most of the time and that is why I emphasized a lot on starting the meal with moderate amount of sugar. Adding carbo and protein to your meal is a good way to make sure you start the day with moderation.

Plant based protein in smoothie bowls- Granola Geeks x Soluxe Protein Review on blog at: https://wp.me/p1tyh7-26r

The recent addiction is hemp and they and crazy delicious as toppings on my bowls. Then when soluxe protein collaborate with Granola Geeks to come up with chocolate protein bites and chocolate protein coco chunks, I‘ve got another favourite thing to not only snack on, but to add them onto my bowls! This smoothie bowl recipe is gorgeous using the later because of the dark chocolate coating on the crispy chunks of coconuts.

Recipe:
1 banana
1 Tbs soluxe protein
1 tsp beetroot powder
1Tbs chia seed
1tsp flax seed
Quarter cup mango
2 Tbs Greek yogurt
2 Tbs water

Toppings:
Blueberry
Kiwiberry
Hemp
Pistachio nuts
Granola Geeks x Soluxe Protein’s Chocolate Protein Coco Chunks

Plant based protein in smoothie bowls- Granola Geeks x Soluxe Protein Review on blog at: https://wp.me/p1tyh7-26r

This combination of topping and base is one of the most delicious and my most recent favourite recipe- both sweet and bitter balancing the taste profile with amazing texture of crispy, crunchy, rich cocoa chocolatey, and nutty. Happy clean start daily and remember this. Healthy lifestyle means eating everything in moderation.

Golden Smoothie Bowl with Mango and Orange (Recipe)

Mangoes are awesome when it comes the the rice aroma and natural sweetness of the fruit. And while the fruiting season is on, I’ve been having them for breakfast and mid day snacking with granola and nuts most of the time. Mangoes are the only fruit I don’t need to order because we have a mango tree that bears fruits like crazy at every fruiting season. Blended mango juice is great but it doesn’t beat a mango smoothie bowl. Plus, the bowl is obviously aesthetically a whole lot prettier than the glass. Let’s just say I do it for the gram. LOL.

Vege smoothie bowl

Ever struggled to eat raw greens? Or getting the little one to consume the nutrition from the greens? This one is a great solution to make sure we have as much greens as possible.

1.Vege smoothie bowl (twinkle stars)

We all know the greens are best consumed raw but have always hated the flavour. The easiest way is actually masking the green with aromatic fruit to make the most delicious and nutritional smoothie bowl to start the day clean and stay healthier. When Kellogg’s released their latest breakfast product, I tried introducing it to my niece and made a smoothie bowl to go with the granolas. Topped it with bananas to make it fancier just so she would be convinced to eat it but to my surprise, it was polished in no time!

2.Vege smoothie bowl (twinkle stars)

Green but tasty Smoothie Bowl

Food intake and energy expenditure are balanced by homeostatic system that maintains our body fat content and this system can be overridden by stressful stimuli, thus the choices of our eating habit at times (aka de-stress with food). I know, I know… binging is bad..

A huge portion of our dietary practices are determined by our own decisions, which in turn can also be influenced by limitless number of variables. The most influential variable which happened to also be the biggest obstacle for me is of course the job scope of a food blogger. It would require me to taste and review food from time to time at any and every place, hence I would really have to watch very closely on my food intake to avoid nutritional disease. Being careful with what we eat is probably one of the simplest ways to stay healthy and fit.

I practice starting-the-day-clean every morning and I avoid starting the day with any food tasting session. And if I have to be at any food tasting at the first meal of the day, I pick my food very carefully. I try my best to start my day from home and one of my favourite breakfasts is the smoothie bowl. I’ve been posting quick recipe posts on instagram for a while now, but I figure I should be sharing them on the blog as well.

Here is one with plenty of greens in it:

Ingredient for the smoothie bowl – 1 kiwi, 1 tsp spirulina, half cucumber, 1 apple, 3 tbs instant oats, a handful of spinach
For toppings– banana, pumpkin seed, dried black bean, sunflower seed, chia seed, buckwheat

smoothie bowl recipe

Always remember this for we are what we eat. Being a food blogger puts me in high risk of nutritional disease but with minimum conscious effort, I am able to maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst enjoying the good food around us.

Mango Smoothie recipe by Shell Harris of Smoothie web

I think we can all agree to some point that food indulgence has been a big part in our lifestyle. However most people are forgetting that we are what we eat. I’ve been encouraging clean eating on my instagram page so hopefully people realized that eating correctly is ultimately the key to not only looking good but feeling great when you are enjoying good health. And I have to be very honest, clean eating is not boring at all. I have here today a breakfast mango smoothie by guest blogger, here is Shell Harris and her fabulous way to start the morning.

Shell Harris Smoothieweb mango smoothie recipe

Busy in the mornings? This is the perfect get up and go breakfast smoothie that is easy to throw together when you are in a rush in the morning. You can mix it up by adding your favorite cereals so that it is suitable for the kids too for a healthy but on-the-go family breakfast that means you don’t skip the most important meal of the day.

Ingredients

Serves Two

• ¾ Cup Frozen Mango

• 1/8 Cup Porridge Oats

• 2 Teaspoons Ground flaxseeds

• 1 Cup Skimmed Milk

• 2 Tablespoons Honey

To Make

1. Add the milk, mango and 1 tablespoon of honey to a blender and mix until creamy.

2. Add the oats and flaxseeds and blend further on high speed until mixed completely

3. Pour into a glass and drizzle over the last tablespoon of honey.

Why These Ingredients

The frozen mango is a thickener for this smoothie and also acts to chill it to the appropriate temperature for serving. The honey gives a sweet flavor to cover the oats and flaxseeds for a better taste.

Suitable for Vegetarians

Benefits

Full of antioxidants which can help to reduce the risk of cancers, such as; breast, prostate and colon, flaxseeds provide a lot of nutrition per tablespoon. They can lower the risk of diabetes for those with precursors for the condition by improving glycemic control due to the healthy fats and fiber it contains. Menopausal women can also find relief from the symptoms such as mood swings and hot flashes by frequently adding flaxseeds to their diet.

Mangos can also aid those who are diabetic as they have a low glycemic index which can normalize insulin levels and reducing the blood sugar levels from spiking which is common when drinking fruit smoothies. Other benefits of consuming mangos include reducing the risk of cancers such as: breast, leukemia, prostate and colon due to the high antioxidant enzymes they contain. In addition to this, the high content of vitamins A and C helps to prevent nutrition related breakouts and clear the skin which is particularly useful for those on a diet or weight loss program. Mangos can also maintain low cholesterol and keep a healthy heart due to their high fiber content.

Fun Fact: You can add some of your own cereal to this recipe like cheerios or other whole meal cereals to make it more exciting for kids to involve their favorite foods.

You can find more delicious and healthy smoothie recipes at www.smoothieweb.com

Please head over to Shell’s smoothie blog and here is a big thank you to Shell for sharing this recipe.

Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2, Bangsar

Marmalade Café @ Bangsar (Bangsar Village 2)

Now is always a good time to get satiate and energised with healhty meals but finding one that would please the entire family or everyone in the crowd is never an easy task. Not everyone is up for nutrition filled juices, and children sometimes still have tantrums getting their hands on the greens. Marmalade café in Bangsar Village caters to all and if you are ever stuck, pick from their all day brunch menu. The menu is simple, essentially great for picky eaters as well as those who simply need a comforting wholesome meal.
5.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2

Jump on the detox bandwagon with their fresh juices and give yourself a nutritional upgrade. I love my Single Beetroot Juice (RM 12) although I doubt it is a crowd pleaser but beetroot lover and healthy conscious ones are going to love this as much as I do. Apart from juice mixes and milkshake smoothies, there are espresso brews as well as tea and some usual quenches commonly found in most cafes. Flat White (RM 12) is not any healthier than any other cuppa but it would help with the caffeine fix.

1.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2

Although nothing said organic (not that I paid attention to) but there are no processed food, only real food to create hearty and comforting meals bursting with flavors. Marmalade combines great food with relaxed environment supplemented with a good child play area; the café feels very family and crowd friendly. I am very happy with their smoothie bowl, it wasn’t difficult to pick when there is the Berry Bliss (RM 20). Blueberries, strawberries and banana blended for base and topped with chia seeds, sliced bananas, and an assortment of berries.

2.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2

Moving to the delicious brunch menu, Crab Cake Benedict (RM 32) gives you a beautifully poached egg covered in hollandaise sauce laid on a deck of crab cakes with seared tomatoes and grilled asparagus, along French onion and a crispy potato rosti.

3.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2
6.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2

Norwegian Bagel (RM 26) gets all the limelight the moment I sink my teeth into smoked salmon sandwiched between a toasted poppy seed bagel, nicely flavoured with a spread of zesty cream cheese, accompanied with pickled cucumber and red radish.

4.Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village 2

There is so much on the menu that I wanted to try but there were only two of us and to avoid food wastage, we decided to hit on Salmon Laksa (RM 29) and Garlic Basil Pesto (RM 26) and the both totally score with the texture of the chewy udon noodle and al dante spaghetti. Udon here sits in spicy laksa broth with plenty of salmon chuicnks, diced pumpkins, beancurd puffs and topped with shredded cucumber and onions. Garnished with mint leaves for a beautiful finishing. And as for the pesto pasta, they are all coated in pesto and smashed broccoli, tossed with cherry tomatoes, and topped with baked parmesan. Pesto and broccoli in fantastic ratio along with the garlic and pine nuts, this combination is nothing but superb.
