Crispy Crust @ Sunway

Another great addition to Sunway and in particularly to the students advantages, the Crispy Crust is another fantastic place for that quick meal. Located along the shop row adjacent to the side entrance of Sunway International School, parking can sometimes be quite a challenge most of the times but given the right timing and a bit of luck, a legal parking bay shouldn’t be too difficult. The restaurant is not hard to spot with that huge crave of letters at the facade.

1.crispy crust (16)

Inside the restaurant, get cosy with the tall ceiling and huge spaces with walls painted in simple white, adorned by large frames of menu and layouts of tables and chairs with ample spaces enough for some privacy for comfy dining.

2.crispy crust

The menus are real simple, with a fix set of indigents and a variation of dishes mixed and matched by yourself accordingly to your personal preferences. The mains are to be chosen from option of either chicken or fish, mostly fried and grilled, and next to that is the top up addition of an array of compliments including pasta, rice, and slices of bread. Matching that is a variety of choices of sides like fries, salad, jumbo sausage or fried egg and many more. Lunch deals are reasonably priced.

3.crispy crust (17)

Swaying slightly a little to the fast food concept, expect very little effort and most dishes live up to the name; crispy crust. My pick, Fried Chicken (RM 5.50) with Fries (RM 4) is clever and certainly appealing to the younger crowd. Topping Caramelised Bacon (RM 2) onto that otherwise boring slice if fried chicken makes it interesting especially when the fries were served without any sprinkle of salt. But having said that, it is not something I would recommend because I personally find that those bacon resembling much like waxed meat (which I am not fond of).

4.crispy crust (6)

Without the caramelised bacon, enjoy the crispy crust while it is hot because as soon as it gets cold, it becomes a little tough.

5.crispy crust (13)

Grilled Salmon (RM 16) slice maybe a little harsh to the students’ wallet but they serve a good slice of salmon instead of those cheap cut. Nicely grilled to that perfect crust on the skin and keeping the inside moist and juicy also justified the price. And adding Pasta (RM 3) with option of Mushroom sauce to the slice of fish was great and sufficient to complete a good meal.

6.crispy crust (5)

While most dishes were decent, Salad (RM 3) was taken very lightly off and casually served with lettuce and nothing else but a squeeze of mayonnaise.

7.crispy crust (11)

Since most are fried or deep fried; they cleverly feature frizzy beverages for that extra kick when it comes to complimenting their dishes. Lemon Soda (RM 2.50) might just be the best option to wash those relenting oil from the frying. Weirdly, beer is available probably due to the heat from their food or maybe the warm weather of Malaysia.

The Curious Goat @ Damansara Perdana and John Ross Jr

The name of the cafe probably trigger everybody’s interest from start but the mysterious part actually gets better when I was searching for it and subconsciously went past the cafe twice without noticing it was even there. How did that happened right? The black facade escapes right past the corner of your eye without any effort, but the lack of proper signage did not hinder a good cup of coffee being served with passion and dexterity.

1.the curious goat

Inside the café shines with warm and cosy lights, paired with a lazy tone of black on the walls with paintings of none other than goats of course, as decor to match its name; the curious goat- most likely related to the Ethiopian goatherd.

With three young owners who double as baristas and waiters, the dedication of Andy Chan, Nathaneal Teoh, and Kevin Lau in bringing the best of their expertise was indeed admirable. And with that concept and precision, their pick of ingredients were meticulous. Things go 86 if they aren’t up to the bar. Hence the best of quality when it comes to ingredients are chosen for their new menu.

4.john ross jr @ the curious goat (7)

Took them two months to decide on this top range salmon imported from Scotland, and one of the best in the world with many top chefs favouring it, the simplicity of it was held at contrast of the amazing flavours from the John Ross Jr’s Smoked Salmon slices. This brand have produced the Scottish smoked salmon in the most authentic way; an old-fashioned kiln smoking methods that give the luscious and rich flavour.

5.john ross jr @ the curious goat (15)

The night’s taste platter showcases the traditional and classic salmon infused with black pepper, Whisky smoked with infused with Balvenie whisky and Tea smoked, infused with Lapsang Souchong tea.

Smoked and packed in UK, they take pride of their freshness and top quality of the fish. With no added preservative, it justifies the intense saltiness from the fish. Nonetheless, it was balanced and compensated well with bread and salad leaves here at the Curious Goat. Presenting the Curious Goat’s Panini, with plump chicken slice with luscious cheese and of course the classic smoked salmon, served with fresh salad.

9.john ross jr @ the curious goat (35)

Also available on the Curious Goat menu is their dessert, Blonde with good aroma and great taste as well as sweetness that is perfectly paired to a scoop of Häagen daz ice cream. Curious Goat is probably the only few places with blonde on the menu. Kudos to that.

10.john ross jr @ the curious goat (36)

And speaking of that, where there are ice creams and espresso, we know that calls for their Classic Affogato. Double shot of espresso with Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream; strong and contrasting sweetness all in one, I must say the premium ice cream attracted quite a few extra merits.

11.john ross jr @ the curious goat (41)

Relying on Sulawesi Toraja beans, coffee is serious here with nothing too fancy. Flat white, latte, mocha and more; all available and presented with the perfect free pouring art that’ll cheer your day. Kudos to that.

YEEHAW!! Cowboy Burger @ SS 15

Namely the cowboy burger, one would expect a lot of wild wild west, some gunslinger or wranglers and dart boards, or even a rodeo machine in the café. However, the layout was surprisingly neat and slick with warm lighting and good ventilation system. Smoking area is available but heat-averse people like us usually preferred the air conditioned space inside. Tucked quietly in a not so busy corner of the SS 15, the Cowboy burger draws the burger lovers with its gourmet servings.

1.cowboy

Having spent a long time in Japan, the chef incorporates Japanese aesthetics into his creation and it is not surprising to find Japanese influenced flavour in some of their burgers. The cowboy Teriyaki Chicken Burger (Rm 16.80) serves with a wholesome whole chicken leg marinated with homemade Japanese teriyaki sauce. Topped with loads of minute efforts that are hardly noticeable, a gourmet burger as such is reasonably priced.

2.cowboy burger (11)

Cowboy takes pride in the pork patty and pork lovers will do well with the Cowboy Mushroom Burger. The meat is delectably tender without being mushy and the topping adds on flavour and texture in whole. Served with herbed fries and salad, and special dipping sauce, the combination would be amply satisfying.

3.cowboy burger (9)

If burger buns are off-limits, then go for their Fish and Chips (RM 17.80). The fresh fillets are lightly battered and fried until golden, and the chips (fries) on the side are charmingly well seasoned. A wonderful symphony of crunchy and delightful textures but in need of a plumper slice of fish, accompanied with lovely tartar sauce.

4.cowboy burger (21)

Cowboy wild mushroom soup (Rm 8.80) is blended with 3 varieties of mushroom and served with a toast. Clean texture from the three mushroom blends were not sufficiently comforting but on the bright side was not relenting. I’d much prefer creamier soup for starters.

5.cowboy burger (17)

Nibbling menu showcased Mexican influenced cowboy snack, Nachos Cheese. While onion ring maybe crispy hard and slightly less pleasant gnawing it, their chili dipping sauce makes it lovely. Did I mention the dipping sauce was quite an addictive one? It was specially prepared by the chef with mix of mustard as main pungent factor to the taste of the mix.

6.cowboy burger (22)
7.cowboy burger (7)

If you are lucky, expect mix of beverage that’ll surprise you when the chef doubles as bar tender. Find yourself indulging in interesting mix flavours like pineapple and sour plum, or steady thirst quencher like the Honey Lemon (RM 6.80)

Hans Wurzt Frankfurt : Frankfurter in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a beautiful place with a significant number of skyscrapers but that wouldn’t distract me from venturing their food scene. And this time around we taste Frankfurt sausages in Frankfurt itself- sausages at the Hans Wurzt’.

1.buildings

And a quick tips for travelers, a quick way to tour around the city is to get yourself a ‘city sightseeing’ ticket where you can board the bus and it’ll show you the popular landmarks whilst giving a quick tour of famous places around the city.

2.DSC06199
3.DSC06198

Here is a quick peek of what’s around. There is the famous Frankfurt Central Station (Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof), which happens to be the busiest railway station in Frankfurt.

16.rankfurt Central Station (Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof) is the busiest railway station in Frankfurt, Germany.[2] In terms of railway traffic, it is the busiest railway station in Germany.

And don’t forget the famous Hammering Man sculptures. The hammering man is a series of monumental kinetic sculptures designed by Jonathan Borofsky and have been installed in various cities around the world, of which the biggest is located in South Korea.

17.Hammering Man is a series of monumental kinetic sculptures designed by Jonathan Borofsky which have been installed in various cities around the world.

Moving on to the food, this chapter reviews the Hans Wurzt’s Frankfurter .

4.@hans wurzt (2)

If you look careful, there is a tiny ladder to reach the bar podium when ordering your sausage. I thought that was pretty thoughtful.

5.@hans wurzt (3)

From the outside, there are few bar tables but people normally grab and go. Although, the seats inside were pretty cozy and comfortable as well.

6.@hans wurzt (16)
7.@hans wurzt (13)
8.@hans wurzt (12)

The work station is neat and clean. And check out the sauces! Nice huh?

9.@hans wurzt (14)
10.@hans wurzt (24)

The sausages of assorted flavours were really huge and there are optional choices for bread as well. The sausage was delicious, not too brine and at the same time having the perfect texture. It was slightly a little too thick but it is a filling meal.

11.@hans wurzt (22)

Eat this with some fries and you can very quickly finish your meal in no time. The fries has got this lovely texture where it is so crispy on the outside you simply just can’t stop eating it. Somewhat similar to those of Wendy’s except this one is a little thicker.

12.@hans wurzt (23)

The Original Frankfurter is served with potato salad with a slice of rye bread or bread roll. The potato salad wasn’t that impressive as it was really mushy and bland. However, the slice of bread was really amazing. It has a very solid texture and amazing taste.

13.Original Frankfurter Wurstchen@ hans wurzt (4)
14.Original Frankfurter Wurstchen@ hans wurzt (3)

Next is the XXL Heimspiel and once again, the fries are amazing. This set comes with one double portion of Currywurzt with homemade curry sauce served with a slice of rye bread or a bread roll, 1 french fries large, mayonnaise or ketchup, 1 soft drink. The thing that’s different from how we normally eat this is that the mayonnaise are not dipped separately but are topped directly to the fries. It was kind of messy if you ask me.

15.XXL Heimspiel@hans wurzt

If not sausages, plan b can be the Original Bayrische Weisswurste, Handelmeiers Senf and Brezel with sweet mustard and pretzel.

And speaking of sizes, checkout the pickled in bottle.

Best Burger in Melaka @ Baboon House

Baboon House freezes time and allows the calm and quaint surrounding to engage dinners with serene and lots of greens and natural sunlight. Upon entering the narrow façade, this restored heritage is not only arty and filled with serenity but at the same time mesmerizing visitors through a time tunnel tracking back to the heritage of this building from its décor. Sit back and venture great gastronomical contentment with some furry friends roaming freely around the open space.

Carefully indulge in every piece of decorative item in this art gallery while embracing the fabulous and almost natural elements along the way. The tranquility is the relaxing diversity when you experience beautiful natural lights as well as water tanks with fishes swimming freely in it.

1.baboon house (7)_

The only thing tempering my focus at the ambiance was my hunger. Looking at the menu, their best are the gourmet burgers. It was certainly not the best I’ve had but I vouched this as the best in Malacca. It is no doubt that this place ranks #1 on tripadvisor for the entire package prevails to be on top in virtual and spiritual satisfaction of both gastronomic and sight.

2.baboon house (1)

The Oriental Chicken Burger (RM 13.80) was carefully prepared and stacked with fine qualities of ingredients, and served with some wedges, and onion rings at the side. I absolutely love the thought of diverse choices instead of the usual wedges or fries options. Baking their own buns, they have one of the best burger buns I’ve had in my gourmet burger voyages so far.

3.baboon house (22)

The patty was relevantly good in texture but the use of good and fresh ingredients prepared upon ordering is worth admiration. The freshly cut slices of cucumber and tomato is a very touching gesture. They might not have prepared their sauce right from scratch but the right ratio of sauce in it made the burger divine.

4.baboon house (30)

Wedges are seriously good when I had mine. It was almost the best wedges I have ever had, but the onion ring really needs drastic improvisation. It was soft, slightly mushy and not very attractive looking even though the prices for the burger range are unbelievably reasonable.

5.baboon house (25)

The Baboon Green Salad is yet another ambrosial indulgence sinfully topped with streaks of pork bacon and chicken pop corn. With options to include feta cheese (RM 16) or without feta cheese for those selective on cheeses (RM 13.50). Alas, it was out of feta cheese when I visit.

6.baboon house (21)_

I solemnly swear that I would prefer no one picking anything from my plate if I’m ordering this for solo consumption. It was sinfully amazing and pork lovers would go berserk over this plate of salad. I should confess that I would greedily and selfishly want to whack it all by myself and not sharing this with anyone. And to be very honest, there were more meats than vegetables in it. So note to vege lovers, the plants are mostly just simple cucumber and tomato so the rich poultry is solely the pull factor in this one. Tossed with vinaigrette dressing and accompanied by simple toasted bread slice, the serving portion for this one was rather generous.

7.baboon house (18)

The Lemonade was indeed perfect in every way including the serving size. The solid ingredient for lemonade was generously permeated into this glass of solution to thirst. It was absolutely perfect during mid day.

8.baboon house (16)_

Coffee range appeared sufficiently satisfying when it comes to the choices and varieties offered. Alas, my usual tea didn’t appeal to be extravagant, instead just ordinarily decent while showcasing our Cameron Highland tea bags.

9.baboon house (7)
10.baboon house (13)

The hot tea and coffee uniquely comes with a piece of Klassiske Vaniljekranse (Danish butter cookies) which I doubt is baked by them. Nevertheless it is still a novelty combination amongst most cafes.

11.baboon house (4)_

Believe me when I vouched this as a must visit place in Melaka. The food is decent; burgers are the best in town, ample extent of coffee choices, and most importantly amazing tranquility from the surrounding. On weekends, aroma of freshly baked on the spot muffins waft in the entire café and would be one amazing experience. Should anyone is interested with the ambiance of this beautiful gallery café; feel free to browse through the internet as there are many which showcased many angles and corners in this café.

12.baboon house (15)

Note that this gallery café strictly prohibits photography but is nice enough to still allow visitors taking pictures with them in it of course. Photos taken with no permission are no different from act of stealing and hence I must proclaim that all photos in this post are taken with consent from Roger Soong (the owner) and I hereby thank him for the warm hospitality from his café.

The Baboon House is located at:
89, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock,
75200, Melaka.

Three Little Pigs and A Big Bad Wolf!

This Three Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolf is a little over ratted if you ask me. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the food was good. And I recommend a decent meal there to anyone who asked me. For first timer, don’t expect anything too fantastic just because it is the highly rated ‘talk about’ place in Bangsar. There are many that are decent and relatively as good as this one if you ask me.

1.big bad wolf- (51)

The interior and the layout of the restaurant is super welcoming and comfortable. The staffs perform well but note that English might not be the first language for some of them so try not to request more than two things in a row. The third might never arrive to your table without having to remind them again.

2.big bad wolf- (52)
2.2.big bad wolf- (57)
3.big bad wolf- (56)

The name of the restaurant and dishes on the menu is creatively interesting, memorable and one would find this signature on the board pretty hardcore and lovely at the same time.

4.big bad wolf- (48)

The food choices are decent and the chef recommended dishes fairly prevails to easily satisfy anybody at anytime of the day. Breakfast is served all day long, but I don’t think there is anything too fantastic with this big breakfast set as there are obviously better ones around.

4.1.big bad wolf- I’m so Hungry I could eat a wolf RM 28 (3)_副本

The sausage is probably one of the most delicious item on this dish. Definitely something to look forward to. This is called I’m so Hungry I could eat a wolf. Cute eh? The breakfast platter here doesn’t come with any juices or coffee and it sells at RM 28 each.

5.big bad wolf- I’m so Hungry I could eat a wolf RM 28 (1)

The Mighty Piggy Burger sells at RM 24 which I thought was another fair dish. With juicy pork patty, cheddar, tomatoes, greens, mayo and fried egg, you can put this up to competition with any of the burger joints currently proliferating in town.

6.big bad wolf- Mighty Piggy Burger RM 24- Juicy pork patty, cheddar, tomatoes, greens, fried egg, mayo_副本
7.big bad wolf- Mighty Piggy Burger RM 24- Juicy pork patty, cheddar, tomatoes, greens, fried egg, mayo (4)

The Smoked Salmon Salad is something really interesting due to their dressing. Selling at a fair price of RM 24, there is a big pile of young rocket, onions, cherry tomatoes, tossed in this amazing homemade raspberry vinaigrette. Something I love ordering whenever I visit. The salad dressing is superbly appetizing and delicious.

8.big bad wolf- Smoked Salmon Salad RM 24- with rocket, onions, cherry tomatoes, tossed in homemade raspberry vinaigrette (1)

The Fried Onion Rings sells at RM 9, and is good for sharing especially when visiting them during peak hours. Food takes a while to serve when they are pack. This is something great to nibble if one does not mind the thick flour.

9.big bad wolf- Fried Onion Rings RM 9 (1)

Water is supplied in bottle, and there is always choices of other beverages on the menu. I like the Peppermint Tea after meal. Tea is served in individual pots at RM 8 each.

Cutest burger in town @ the Bear Paw

The first outlet has been running well in Setapak and that is one place I am often reluctant to travel to due to the distance and the very challenging traffic on the road. When the launch of the new outlet in SS 15, I delightfully proceed to explore those cute paws which originated from Taiwan.

1.bear paw (5)

The seats are neat and the walls are nicely decorated with none other than paw prints, and cartoons, and very delicious looking bear paw.

2.bear paw (20)

I must admit the Taiwanese often put in a lot of thoughts to make their food really fancy. These cute little paw prints are no different as well.

3. bear paw -whole wheat, fish, honey mustard, cheese-lemon yakult RM 16.90 (3)
3.1. bear paw -whole wheat, fish, honey mustard, cheese-lemon yakult RM 16.90 (5)

They capture the heart of youngsters almost at a quick instant to a finger snap. Available it three choices being the fish, chicken and the spicy chicken patty in a selection of few options of bun types and sauces types, along with fresh lettuce and tomato slices. The buns are alright, soft and warm even though I went with the healthier choice of bun- the whole wheat bun. I am thinking fish but did not want to match it with the tartar sauce instead; I went with the honey mustard.

4.bear paw

The fish slice was very well done at a perfect timing Very crispy on the outside and superbly juicy inside. The fish slice is not thin thus making it really plump in texture. The only drawback is probably the overloaded sauce but I would remember to ask for lesser sauce.

5.bear paw -whole wheat, fish, honey mustard, cheese-lemon yakult RM 16.90 (10)

The overloaded sauce results in the ‘paw’ being slightly mushy when it meets the fresh slice of tomato and lettuce. There is too much moist in it on top of the fresh vegetables. Preparing each order fresh is something worth admiration and I really hope for them to maintain this standard even when business becomes busier later.

6.bear paw -whole wheat, fish, honey mustard, cheese-lemon yakult RM 16.90 (8)

The Bear Paw itself cost RM 9.90 but the value set meal each range from RM 12.90- RM 14.90 The selection comprises of a Bear Paw, and a choice of their beverage series. Since the Taiwanese adores the Milk Tea, a Milk Tea series is foreseeable. The rest would be the Fresh Tea Series, Fresh Fruit Tea Series, Yakult series, and the Sparkling Soda Series.

7.bear paw -whole wheat, fish, honey mustard, cheese-lemon yakult RM 16.90 (7)
8.bear paw (8)

The Bear Paw don’t serve pork and is currently obtaining their license from Jakim. They would be serving breakfast and rice soon so until then, we would devour these cute little buns first.

Eat and Drink Australia : I’m lovin’ it with Mc Lamb burger!

I am lovin’ it even more with this lamb burger. Mc Donald’s is almost the favourite childhood memories for most of us. Yours truly is no exception. I remember looking forward to Sunday mornings very much because father would take us to the Kids club in McD’s and that’s when we get our favourite burger (well they only gave us one choice back then), the Mc Egg. That might be just the reason why I love McEggs so much. Probably because very much connected by those good memories and fun times I had with the rest of those kids every Sunday. I am so glad that the McEgg is back with the deluxe version. Read about Mc Egg Deluxe here

.
In different continent and countries, the Mc Donald’s serves different menu on top of their regular. For example, pork is definitely a no-no in Malaysia, and back in Hong Kong, we have Macaroni on the breakfast menu. In Australia, there is the serious Lamb Burger, that comes with a very plum lamb patty, tooped with the banjo egg, and some gourmet salad and beetroot, with wheat germ bun.

1.@mc d lamb and cookie (10)
2.@mc d lamb and cookie (11)

I really like it not smashed up and squeezed while wrapped in papers like ours, and the fact that the salad are still really looking fresh in contrary to the salad mayonnaise in our Chicken Mc Deluxe or Mc Chicken.

3.@mc d lamb

To all the Mc Donald fans, do take note of the specialty in each county you visit and you might just find something interesting from their.

Dai Ban Noodle @ Damansara

Dai Ban Noodle literally translates to thick or big noodle. They serve not just noodles, but many of the rest of the noodles as well as rice and burgers. They take pride in the fresh ingredients and the preparation of the ingredients and dishes. Carefully picking their ingredients and preparing everything right from scratch, the cook puts in lots of effort to ensure the best of quality and value for money for the customers.

daiban-

Salted Egg Sotong (RM 11.90) is a rich salted egg coat of sotong ring with amazing texture. Deep fried with the perfect timing, the sotong doesn’t take lots of effort gnawing it. When chewing it, the salted egg coating is astutely distributed evenly. Every bite is real tasty.

1.daiban-Salted Egg sotong @ RM11.90

The Crunchy Prawn Roll sells at RM 7.90 and the prawns were really fresh and juicy. The skin was great and not too greasy. The prawns however, would be much more appealing in appearance should they have removed the intestinal vein.

2.daiban-Crunchy Prawn Roll @ RM7.90

Fan of smoked duck slices should be delighted with their imported Smoked Duck that is selling so affordably at RM 8.90 per plate. Every slice is well distributed with a balance layer of meat and fat, greatly moist and succulent at the same time.

3.daiban- Smoked Duck @ RM8.90 (1)

When coming up with the name Daiban Noodle, this illustrates not just big noddle, but grand in general. Grand dishes, grand presentation, grand services for the customers and everything grand you can ever imagine. While trying to achieve this, check out this huge plate of Lemon Grass Pork Chop with Fried Rice at a reasonable price of RM 12.90. The generous slice of pork chop is so delicious and perfect in both the texture and the flavour. Marinated for hours, the pork chop is fantastic.

4.DSC06510_

Speaking of good pork chop, the DaiBan Pork Burger did not fall short from their pork chop rice. The pork patty is amazingly spiced and each patty is minced not with any machine or meat grinder but with the traditional method of the skillful cook. The texture is pretty solid, nothing too loose and the bun is superbly fluffy and soft.

5.daiban-Dai Ban Pork Burger @ RM15.90 (4)

The cheese and vegetables alongside the sauces gives the moist on top of the juicy patty. The wedges are crispy on the outside and not greasy as well.

6.daiban-Dai Ban Pork Burger @ RM15.90

Another best seller is the Claypot Pumpkin and Pork Rib congee (RM10.90). Most places cook porridges with plain porridge. This one is cooked with flavours which blend well with the later addition of pumpkin. This way, the pumpkin blends into the porridge nice and smooth.

7.daiban- Claypot Pumpkin & Pork Rib Congee (2)

Follow by the Dai Ban Spicy Char Kuey Teow (RM8.90) which is delectably spicy. It comes with a mix of yellow noodles despite the name Char Kuey Teow. The mix of noodles is so the texture of this is slightly muddled up with both a more solid texture from the noodle and the bouncy texture from the kuey teow. As for the spicy level of this dish, the zest to this is the right at the tip and the addition of preserved turnip in it is clever.

8.daiban-Dai Ban Spicy CKT & Noodles @ RM8.90 (5)

The signature to the Dai Ban noodle is the Traditional Handmade Dai Ban Mee at a fair price of RM 6.50. The ingredients are pretty luscious and the soup is rich in flavour, very much to my liking. The noodles however, lack some chewiness in texture. I admire the effort of the cook preparing everything right from scratch with man power instead of machine. That means all the way from kneading the dough and pinching it to pieces.

9.daiban- Traditional Handmade Dai Ban Mee @ RM6.50

The beverages are also something they are entitled to be swollen with pride. Using fresh fruit with no artificial preservatives or concentrated juice, their juices are also one that is worth admiring. With lots of passion fruit in most of their mixes, instant perk of blasting flavours comes from the strike of sour with the immense fragrance from the passion fruit.

I can’t disagree to the Teh and Kopi Ais but I wouldn’t acknowledge them as the best. One thing for sure that is the quality is at its best.

Burger With A Hug @ Big Hug Burger

Big Hug is one of the latest additions the proliferating trend of gourmet burgers. Big Hug not only serves burgers as well as common sides, but they munificently serve heartwarming hugs as well.

1.BigHug (40)

The walls are artistically embellished with creativity while light snacks which bring back lovely childhood memories for most of us are generously grouped at one corner of the shop right next to the self serviced drink stand. This would come in real handy when there is a long line ahead, especially the hungry younger ones with lower tolerance in patience.

2.BigHug (7)
3.BigHug (9)

Burgers are eminently recognized by the soft and fluffy bun, patties and various toppings and sauces. The Big Hug Burgers live up to meet the standard in certain aspects if not all. Note that their ingredients are really fresh.

4.bh-the big hug (9)

The recent review gave me the opportunity to try most of their burger and apart from the inconsistency of those that came from anything with whole chicken thigh in it, the rest are okay. Starting with the very difficult to be identified Grilled Lamb Burger, those with least favourite to lamb would be please to devour this for RM 20 per set with fries and bottomless soft drinks.

6.bh-grilled lamb (4)

Available in three choices of bun, the burger comes with a plump grilled lamb patty, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onion, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, gherkins, and fresh lettuce. The caramelized onion is my least favourite. It was dulcified to overpower everything else in the burger.

5.bh-grilled lamb (1)

The Crispy Fish Burger is almost everyone’s favourite at RM 18per set. Serves with a crispy fish fillet which is so crispy it’ll hurt your palatum if not careful! No hogging down your burger with this one. Don’t forget the cheddar cheese, roasted garlic aioli tomato slices, and fresh lettuce.

7.bh-crispy fish (1)
7.1.bigh-crispy fish

Another seafood choice is the Grilled Salmon Burger set at RM 20. With standardized sizes of grilled salmon fillet for consistency on top of roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onion, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and fresh lettuce.

8.bighug-salmon burger (2)
9.bighug-salmon burger (3)

Once again, the caramelized onion totally conquest the flavour from salmon but having salmon slices inside a burger do have quite a brilliant texture when gnawing it. Great for those who is not up for anything too heavy.

10.bighug-salmon burger (6)

While for those who eats plenty, there is the Big Hug Burger which is a jumbo sized burger with sesame bun only. This combo of crispy chicken chop, cheddar cheese, tomato slices, onion, pineapple slices, tomato slices and fresh lettuce is perfect for sharing.

11.bh-the big hug (13)

The giant burger sized close to three quarter of an A4 paper.

12.bh-the big hug (11)

There have been recent debates as to the chicken was badly prepared with very little meat and lots of batter. I supposed the chicken thigh were not consistently fried in such a way where the meat is nicely unfolded and spread evenly for an all round up meat from all sides when biting into the burger. It was relatively fine this time around.

13.bigh-the big hug (2)

Cheesy Chicken Burger is this other burger which does not fall short when comparing to the Big Hug Burger. This combo of crispy chicken chop, ham, fried egg, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, nachos cheese, tomato slices and fresh lettuce sells at RM 26 per set.

14.bigh- chessy chicken (8)
15.bigh- chessy chicken (9)

The big hug insists on using the best ingredients they can afford. Daily picked fresh ingredients and buns that are baked twice a day. The open kitchen shows off their skilled staffs and one thing which is a guarantee would be the cleanliness of this place.

16

The most authentic and simple burger is probably the Grilled Burger with option of either grilled beef or grilled chicken patty, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onion, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and fresh lettuce.

17.bh-grilled chicken (2)
18.big hug- grilled beef

The Mario’s Chicken Burger is one that I find a little juicier than the rest thanks to the roasted cherry tomatoes. There is the grilled chicken patty, sautéed shitake mushroom, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onion, roasted garlic aioli, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and fresh lettuce for RM 21 per set.

19.bh-mario's chicken (3)

Once again, caramelized onion wasn’t that great and a little too sweet for me. I would probably ask to remove the onions the next time I return. The shitake mushrooms gave a relatively bad masticating texture because they were rather thick, much to my dislike. Then again, palate can be quite subjective at times.

20.bh-mario's chicken (2)

Definitely lots of cheese. Replace to chicken patty with beef patty and you’ll have the Mario Beef Burger .

21

Lastly, a bit of sweet tangy and juicier bites, there is the Honolulu Chicken Burger (RM 21per set). On top of the grilled chicken patty, there is the roasted cherry tomato, grilled pineapple ring, caramelized onion, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, and the key to moist; some bolognese sauce. It would be even better for the texture if the pineapple is a little riper.

22.bh-Honolulu Chicken (3)

There are others like the Swedish Meat Balls (RM 16 per set) for those who maybe not up for burgers perhaps. The sauce is great and many would definitely compare this to those of IKEA café. Except the Big Hug takes pride in the high quality jam.

23.BigHug (25)

The side orders include French Fries (RM 7), Cheesy Wedges (RM 7) and Onion Rings (RM 6). Other than the onion ring slightly a little greasy, the wedges are delicious. Using russet potatoes for their fries, I like them thick with delectable texture.

24.bh french fries
25.bh-wedges
26.bh-onion

The sauces were impressively made from scratch and some really prevails to linger a little longer in your memory.

27.bh-Back-mayo mint, monster mayo, garlic aioli, pink lady-Front-nacho cheese, just mayo, seafood mayo

(Back row: mayo mint, monster mayo, garlic aioli, pink lady. Front row: nacho cheese, just mayo, seafood mayo)

The set menu comes with fries and free flow soft drinks, and add RM 2 to upgrading the soft drinks to fresh fruit juice. There are also coffee and tea for those caffeine fan.

28.

The concept and the shop interior are beautiful. According to the charitable owner, she loves providing a place for students to hang.

Thank Aidelle for the food, and hopefully the Big Hug would be able to strive for the best. It was lovely meeting her in person, and I am delighted to meet other bloggers.

Lastly, let’s not forget to thank the man behind the success of this food tasting session. People normally warn me not to put their photos in my blog. He on the other hand, insisted that I remember to include this photo. Here is Jackson, a true foodie with passion of food. Thank Foodirector for organizing this.

TGIF’s burgers

The burger trends are coming up one by one and people seem to really like it. I’m not sure if more burgers can attract more crowds to the T.G.I.F. I guess the entensive choices of menu is what’s making people happy. It is making us happy when my Sony gang decided to have our gatherings at the TGIF sunway pyramid.

0.IMG-20130414-WA008

The new burgers artistically preserve the classic taste with touches of creativity customised to bring lots of fun and joy to the dinners. Basically the Friday’s Stack House Burgers like many others are packed with layers or ingredients all stacked up in a burger. But unlike many others, it is not difficult to eat them. The Mushroom Chicken Mushroom Burger here sells at RM 29.90 with crispy breaded chicken breast, melted Provolone cheese and horseradish sauce topped with sautéed mushrooms, balsamic onions and battered Portobello mushroom fries.

2.beef bacon burger rm 23.90 tgif (1)_

Digi subscribers would be happy to hear this. All Digi users get 1 free cocktail or mock tail with every order of T.G.I Friday’s new Stack House Burger. The choice of cocktails or mocktails are Top Shelf Mojito (RM26.90++), Mango Caramel Mojito (RM20.90++), Strawberry Mojito (RM19.90++), and this Signature Mojito (RM19.90++). Christin seemed to enjoy this very much.

3.mojito

The rest of us are happy with everything else on the menu. Starting with the Wings at RM 22.90, which is perfect for sharing. The well marinated and flavourful chicken wings were succulent and juicy. Top that with some refreshing celery trimmed to the perfect texture.

4.full wings rm 22.90 tgif

The Mushroom Soup on the other hand was nothing impressive and with so many other dinners serving good mushroom soups, it’s time they revise their recipe on this one. Too much flour, and very little mushroom. For RM 13.90, I would rather go for the Clam Chowder, also selling at RM 13.90 but yet filled with chunks of seafood, and very flavourfully thick.

5.mushroom soup and clam soup rm 13.90_副本
6.mushroom soup and clam soup rm 13.90 (2)_副本

Next is the Shrimp Chicken Pasta at RM 30.90. It wasn’t the best pasta I have had but saying that didn’t do them any justice as pastas aren’t their forte. At least the shrimps are fresh and generously served.

7.shrimp chicken pasta rm 30.90 tgif_

The Sizzling Chicken Cheese is my all time favourite with that lean chicken breast meat with some mashed potatoes and rich grill of cheese and capsicums sizzled on a hot plate when served. Selling at RM 31.90 and depending on your appetite, the portion might have been a little too much for the small eaters.

8.sizzling chicken cheese rm31.90 tgif_

Fans of Tennessee, don’t forget the Tennessee Burger and Tennessee Steak, selling at RM 27.90 and RM 59.90 respectively. Coated with rich Tennessee sauce on the juicy plum sized beef, you know it’s good when someone happily whack the food before i get to photograph it. Bummer.

The T.G.I.F gourmet burger certainly knows their way in fulfilling ones satisfaction when it comes to burgers.

Good food must be accompanied by good friends. Thank all who attended the gathering. I love you people.

Pickle & Fig @ TTDI

Pickle & Fig is interestingly a suitable name to suit the concept of the café. Starting with their many interesting mixes of smoothies and juices, it offers a wide range of choices for an extended range of customers who loves healthy and natural ingredients in their food and beverages. Caffeine addicts and coffee lovers would be able to enjoy their choices of caffeine and non caffeine drinks along with a spectrum of creative menu of sandwiches.

1.

It is calmly soothing and spacious in the café, and there are assorted furniture of various design to ensure maximum comfy for dinners. Whether you like it on stool, cusion, or bench, which ever gives the perfect comfy to chill and hang out. There are lots of space in the café and some fun for the creative ones to be explored.

2.3.
4.

Something to be given a deep thought off at the wall of “conscience”….What would you like to do before you die…

5.6

I did not try much of their drinks but I tried quite a bit of their sandwiches. Eunice had the Mocha at RM 9, where else Ben ordered the Latte which sells at RM 8.

7.mocha RM 9 pickle and fig .
8.cafe latte RM 8 pickle and fig (1)

As many already know, I am no fan of coffee so tea and juices would be the next in line for beverages. We tried the Mango Mint, Avocado Dates and the Bananalicks which happens to be my favourite. The mango mint is a mixture of mango, mint leaf, banana and pineapple. As for the avocado dates, there is obviously the avocado and dates with some milk and yogurt. It was their best seller and I find it rather bland despite the ice cream yogurt in it. Dates are used to substitute honey for the sweetness in the usual avocado smoothie. That probably explains the lack of sweetness in this. As for the bananalicks, it was a genius combination of horlicks, banana, milk and yogurt. Do note that they don’t use natural yogurt but ice cream yogurt instead. I love this one and got carried away without a photo. My apology….

But, I did get the Goji Me which is a combination of strawberry, goji, apple, pineapple, and yogurt for RM 12 as well as the Blue Healer which includes the blueberry, blackberry, banana, and apple. The later is priced at RM 10 . Their smoothies were great and smoothly flavoured with creative and rich ingredients.

9.Goji Me -strawberry, goji, apple, pineapple, yogurt RM 12 and blue healer -blueberry, blackberry, banana, apple RM 10 pickle and fig (3)

If smoothie is heavy in flavour, there is the Gryphon Artisan Tea with assorted flavours at RM 8, and served with a tea pot. I love my Marakesh Mint mainly due to the green tea in it.

10.Gryphon teas .

With the mint and lemongrass, the ordinary green tea becomes extraordinary.

11.Gryphon teas

Tea and coffee is good after meal, but smoothies should ideally be taken in the morning. Let’s proceed to the food menu, for there is quite an extensive range of sandwiches which is served with salad and wedges as sides. Starting with their only choice of soup on the menu, which is the Onion and cheddar, this is selling at RM 8. They use spanish onion so expect a lot of sweetness in the soup. Served with baguette slices, it makes a comforting starter.

11.2. onion n cheddar- spanish onion n melted cheddar soup n baquette slices RM 8 pickled and fig

Follow by the Avocado Mixed Greens with Raspberry Vinaigrette. Salad lover would adore this Mesclun salad, sliced avocado, and toasted almonds with raspberry vinaigrette. Despite the name, there is very little avocado in it. For RM 13, this can be a great add on dish when sharing.

11.3 n 13 (1)

With their proud Panini, we had the Coronation Chicken Sandwich pricing at RM15. With sliced chicken breast and caramelised onion as well as raisins coronation sauce and alfafa sprout on ciabatta. I really love that generous alfafa sprouts on the chicken.

12.Coronation Chicken Sandwich. RM15 Sliced chicken breast + caramelised onion + raisins coronation sauce + alfafa sprout on ciabatta. All panini are served with triple cooked wedges (6)

All panini are served with triple cooked wedges with house sauce and dressings that are all made from scratch.

11.3 n 13

The sauces and dressings are good to go with the wedges. I thought their mayo could use more egg yolk.

14.Aioli Russian Coronation Mayo-all sauces made from scratch (1)

The portion for all the sandwiches is pretty awesome with decent amount of wedges, and salad. My favourite of the day is this Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Sandwich. Selling at RM 19, there is a generous amount of my favourite Smoked salmon, capers, the flavourful chives cream cheese and lemon taragon mayo, on my favourite focaccia bread.

15.Smoked Salmon &Cream Cheese Sandwich. RM19 Smoked salmon + capers + chives cream cheese+ lemon taragon mayo + mixed on focaccia (5)

I am obviously in love with this and I thought it was brilliant to have tossed little capers in it but I am quite disappointed with the focaccia bread. It was obviously thin and would be great if it can be more solid in texture.

16.Smoked Salmon &Cream Cheese Sandwich. RM19 Smoked salmon + capers + chives cream cheese+ lemon taragon mayo + mixed on focaccia (6)

Moving to the Smoked Turkey Roll &Cheddar hot pressed Panini, this would blow your mind with the rich flavours from the turkey roll, as well as the thick cheddar. This one sells at RM15, and this is not only the attractive generous amount of smoked turkey toll that is exciting but the sauteed mushroom and cheddar plus infused oil on either wholemeal or white bread.

17.Smoked Turkey Roll &Cheddar hot pressed Panini. RM15-Smoked turkey toll + sauteed mushroom + cheddar + infused oil on wholemeal or white bread.

I didn’t quite like the texture of the pressed wholemeal slices for a slow eater like me take a longer time to eat and by then, it gets hard when it cools.

18.Smoked Turkey Roll &Cheddar hot pressed Panini. RM15-Smoked turkey toll + sauteed mushroom + cheddar + infused oil on wholemeal or white bread.

The Hoisin Chicken &Grilled zucchini did well with white bread and I do find this pleasant because the fillings in this are moist and juicy. Making the texture enjoyable at the price of RM16.

19.pif_

Another choice is the Rotkraut Pastrami which sells at RM19. This one has beef salami, basil pesto, mozzarella and butter spread in either wholemeal or white bread.

20.Rotkraut Pastrami. RM19-Beef salami + basil pesto + mozzarella + butter spread in wholemeal or white bread-pickled and fig

When dining in a big group, try their Nachos . With RM 12, there is round tortilla chips and melted cheddar with sliced black olives and japapeno slices with salsa roja.

21.nachos -round tortilla chips n melted cheddar n sliced black olives n japapeno slices n salsa roja RM 12 pickled n fig (3)

Here is a sneak peek of what might be coming soon on their menu in the near future. The Fish and Chips has got great batter which is lovely when served hot and the thick piece of fish is absolutely filling. This one is served with mushed pea and wedges.

22.fish n chips-pickled n fig

I like the Panini at this place as well as the choices of beverages available. On top of that, the space and the ambience are great to hang around with a bunch of great people. Cards and simple games are available for those interested in something more than just some good food.
