Down to Bones @ OUG , Taman Overseas Union

Not a place for first dates and definitely not for white shirts cause things are way better digging with hands if you asked me. Down to bones (DTB) at OUG has always been that to go on my rib tearing and polishing list of ferocious pork rib stop. It can be a messy feed but plan ahead and be rewarded because the menu have developed a cult following amongst meat lover since the days from when their pop up store operates on weekends two years back. Plenty of lip smacking and finger licking going on. Salivation will be impossible to stop with the sticky rich coat over tender moist meat. Yet, there is more than just rib at this now-operating-at-a shop neighborhood eatery. Go for the comforting butter garlic sauce with pork chunks and this Butter sauce Spaghetti (RM 16) was nicely cooked and perfectly topped with a gorgeous boiled egg. And when indecisive of either Hot Wings or Honey Soy wings, there is the half and half option so greedy people like me can taste the both.

1.Down to Bones @ OUG , Taman Overseas Union
2.Down to Bones @ OUG , Taman Overseas Union

The star-status dish is DTB’s tender, two stick slow-cooked Pork Ribs (RM 23) in DTB sauce – they require just the right amount of tug to pull the meat clean from the bone. These beauties take their name in pride with the treasure coming with sticky saucy goodness. So get ready to roll up your sleeves and pile a tray with meat that falls off the bone. Forget about what comes accompanying the ribs because both the mash and coleslaw looked and tasted trashy next to the glorious meat. Called me old fashion but some old faithful pairing of rib and fries would be a superb experience here. That missing kick is compensated by a good icy cold beer which by the way is probably the best thing to order from their ridiculously tiny beverage menu. It is either that or bottled water.

4.Down to Bones @ OUG , Taman Overseas Union

Choices of food are old fashioned in general but classic pig is what it is. The sides and add ons are heavy and perhaps too fatty when paired with all the rib and creamy pasta but the only thing that appeared light and easy wasn’t flattering either. Coleslaw was especially thick and soaked in the rich dressing I can hardly taste the cabbage. Pork Soup reminds me of water brought to boiled to cook the many, many ribs which conveniently then turned into and served as soup. Not something I would recommend ordering.

The location hasn’t changed. Only now they are in a shop and if you are powerless to resist the smoke and oil from the stove, take the outdoor seats.

Samgeori (3Geori) Butcher at YG Republique Malaysia

We easily have almost close to authentic K-BBQ in Klang valley but to actually let you forget the fact that you are not in Korea, head on over to Samgeori at Trec KL. That’s right! YG Republique is now in Kuala Lumpur.

1.Samgeori (3Geori) Butcher at YG Republique Malaysia

2.Samgeori (3Geori) Butcher at YG Republique Malaysia

Thick slices of top notch meat were served free flow for all guests at the grand launch ceremony. Chug it with those beers going around and for a second there I’ve forgotten my job because all I could focus was the delicious bite of well-balanced fat layering of pork belly. I really dislike pork belly but this one tastes amazing. Each bite was juicy and super moist with the perfect chew texture when the fat layer completely melts the minute you sink your teeth into it.

6.Samgeori (3Geori) Butcher at YG Republique Malaysia

Of course, this inauguration was star studded. The launch of the restaurant was attended by celebrities and prominent stars whom left their signatures on the wall. Which also means that selfie with the wall becomes mandatory from then on. Big Bang’s member Seungri were present and trust me, the place was swamped with fans and securities.

I am absolutely in love with the Iberico pork belly and am definitely returning again for a proper dine and taste. Stay tuned to the proper review in the near future. Also, if you are directed to this page to see pics of your favourite celebrity, they were highly protected by tight securities I hardly catch a glimpse at all. Sorry.

Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

There might not be fancy slick furniture’s or sophisticated equipped tabletop grills like many other Korean BBQ joints, but this place is almost always full and packed with patrons. If you are looking for a good Korean charcoal barbecue fix, then look no further. This one here is considerably well round up with all the classics including delicious spicy pork, seafood, and marinated chicken alongside appetising banchans.

1.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Although slightly disappointed when it comes to the lack of variety on banchans, the variety of BBQ dishes and ala carte dishes easily make up the shortages. And to very honest, the sides are not the best of varieties but that has never been the highlight here. it is always their gills that steals the limelight.

2.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara
3.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

And while there may not be supreme quality cuts of meat, be rest assured that they are all very fresh. Sliced Pork Belly (RM 25) is probably the best seller. And for that ultimate porky experience, go for the Gochujang Sam Gyeop Sal (RM 28). The spicy marination combined with those juicy fats and tender lean meat makes every chunk fantastic.

4.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Don’t forget the fresh baby octopus. For those who like that sweet freshness from strips of octopus tentacles can order the Jjuggumi Sutbul Galbi (RM 27). Charcoal burn contributes very little to the earthy char because octopus cooks very quickly before getting the char flavour. Instead, look forward to taste the freshness of this cephalopod species.

9.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

And making sure that they are up to the latest favourite of Korean food lovers, they also have cheese on the menu. That’s right, any food lover would know of this ongoing trend now. But as much as i enjoyed the strings of melted cheese, we have seriously reached peak melted cheese trend so please wake me up when the hype has passed okay?

5.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara
6.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Spicy rice balls (RM 23) are getting popular but the thing about this one here is the standard serving size. Which obviously, would require more people to share it. Unless of course if you are a big eater. White rice mix with aromatic seaweed and delicious spicy sauce is so good if anyone is a lover for spicy food, this is your fix. Press it into your desired ideal size, eat it as it is or even give it a quick grill at the BBQ pit. Otherwise ask for the less fancy staple- Korean white rice (RM 5) for a heftier price.

7.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara
8.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara
10.Saemaeul Korean BBQ @ Solaris Mont Kiara

I am surprise the stews aren’t as spicy as I thought it is, and it’s a good thing because the heat from the boiling hot pot plus the already heated up grill upon us already got me thinking about bingsu down the road before I’m even finished with the meal. But hey, if not then there is always your Korean booze to go with it (we had the rice wine).

Occupying the corner lot, there are plenty of seats semis alfresco but unless it is a cool day, it does not quite matter whether it’s is indoor or outdoor.

Ola! Korean BBQ Garden @ Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara

It isn’t easy coming up with the best place for Korean BBQ in Solaris Mont Kiara but Ola! Korean BBQ Garden in Soho KL is easily one with a good grill that delivers native tastes to the many Koreans here in Mont Kiara. On top of the wide range of meat that’s perfect for any barbequing occasion, classic Korean ala carte dishes are available.

1.Ola! Korean BBQ Garden @ Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara

A warm bowl of Sundubu Jigae (RM 25) fills the stomach with warm and delicious soft tofu and savoury spicy stew will effortlessly gratifies your need to refill your white rice. And the no minimum order of meat grills lets you enjoy your meat at anytime. Samgyeopsal (RM 28) is decent and straightforward even more if you get the staffs to grill them for you.

2.Ola! Korean BBQ Garden @ Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara
3.Ola! Korean BBQ Garden @ Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara

Be it on or off the grill, or whether you’re an adamant meat lover of foodie that enjoys every bit of those side dishes, this will be a great place to be. My absolute love is the Yangnyeom Gejang that is almost impossible to find anywhere else within this neighbourhood. Try your luck asking for this spicy marinated raw crab because it is not commonly served amongst their range of side dishes so hopefully if you ask, you may get them. Don’t tell them I spill this but they only serve this on complimentary to the natives and occasionally the regulars. If you get them on your first visit, don’t forget to thank the owner.

With a good choice of traditional dishes and BBQ, Soju (RM 25) or any other alcohol drink accompanies the dishes well. This is perfect for dinner for two or large parties, as well as families and friends because the place is crowd friendly.

Korean delight @ Gangnam 88, Kota Damansara

Gangnam 88’s long-standing reputation has not faltered – its BBQ offering maintains good standards and variety, and their staffs being friendly and helpful. It is set to revolutionise Korean dining with their fancy dishes for sure.

Here at the Kota Damansara outlet (I know, why not the Solaris Mont Kiara outlet when it’s within walking distance right?), a couple of us bloggers decided to fill our stomach whilst catching up with one another and this is one of the best with a good option so everyone can have something they like. At the same time, Gangnam 88 is decked out with neat furniture and sophisticated seating, ample to provide a comfortable dining experience.

7.Gangnam 88 @ Sunway Giza

The meats offered, are of top notch freshness thanks to the healthy flow of orders so one can easily order anything from all the classic choices including marinated meats of variety parts, and then consume at ease in their satisfying recipes. But we are feeling squid instead of meat so we had Squid Jjambbong and Kimchi Soup. With a Jeyuk bbokeum and complimentary side dishes, the entire set cost RM 118 with complimentary steam egg, and it’s called the Friends Set. Such a cute name to celebrate friendship ^^.

All in all, the impressive thing here is obviously the super fancy menu and combo sets offered, that would make your life super easy when ordering. One doesn’t even need to go through the entire menu to actually decide because the combo sets pretty much takes care of your need. Side dishes are considered generous when it comes to assortment.

Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Korean food in Solaris Mont Kiara has come a long way with plenty of creative trend, but BBQ stays authentically the staple favourite still among both the locals as well as the Korean expatriates. Meanwhile as the fried chicken and cheesy gimmick taking over the world (well Solaris Mont Kiara at least), this one remains mundane and authentic. Koreans come to Apgujeong for the barbeque and they stay for the assorted refillable banchan.

1.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

This place is absolutely the one for those with either a gargantuan hunger or an immense appetite. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to visit this place solo as well; after all minimum order comes in huge portion. For the ultimate authentic and classic Korean barbeque, choose from marinated chicken, to pork belly or pork shoulder. I say go for the cheek, and enjoy the seemingly endless supply of banchan.

2.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

3.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

4.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Do it yourself at the BBQ pit or their helpful staff would be more than glad to assist. We like or belly in huge cuts.

5.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

6.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Banchan (side dishes) is not the only thing that is complimentary here, the BBQ sets comes with a simple silky smooth steamed egg, as well as a hearty bowl of warming soup with tofu and vegetables in it. Side dishes like aged kimchi, pickled radish, lightly seasoned vegetables cut or julienne for different texture, soft steamed cubes of root vegetables, or anything that is classic is on rotation here.

12.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Dolsot Bibimbap come packed to the breaking point with white rice topped with sticky baby octopus pieces in spicy bean paste and a hefty crunch and texture from the many vegetables that fills up the hot pot. Give it a stir instantly or keep it a little longer for crusty rice at the bottom of the hot pot, whichever way is a preferred savoring method would still promise the ultimate authenticity in this one.

13.Apgujeong Korean Restaurnat @ Solaris Mont Kiara

With the fancy Korean offerings around this area, and the food here being nowhere close to contemporarily or fancy, Apgujeong remained elaborate as classic Korean favourite. Don’t be surprised to see more Korean native diners there because this one offers a flavour close to home.

Huo Lu Ai Korean BBQ @ Setiawalk Puchong

Huo Lu Ai at Setiawalk Puchong serves Korean style BBQ with a standard serving of side dishes and some popular ala carte Korean dishes. If you fancy feasting on delicious grilled meat and kimchi whilst downing shots of soju or sipping from glasses of beers with comfy and relaxing ambiance, then this is the perfect place. With an open facade and alfresco dining by the pond, night breeze is the best to enjoy the delicious meal despite the undersized choices of side dishes.

1.Huo Lu Ai Korean BBQ @ Setiawalk Puchong

For succulent sticks of fresh ribs, you’ve come to the right place. Diners will be salivating at the Spicy Pork rib (RM 29) with the sticky sweet and spicy sticks of rib, juicy bite of Pork Shoulder (RM 21) and Pork Belly (RM 19) meat. At the same time, one would also be able to fill up the carb crave with some of those Baby Cheese rice balls (RM 9). You can’t see the cheese in this one but you’d be able to taste the harmony of this milky cheese and mouth savouring brine of nori within that compact rice.

Piping vibrant red bowls of hot stews are perfect during colder wheather so that could be a good addition if you love tantalising heat warming up the stomach as you swallow the thick liquid that is packed with flavours. To balance the plenty of spicy and red, we ordered Soy Bean Paste (RM 12) instead. Also great for solo diners, this as well as the Korean’s Spicy Noodle (RM 17) is equally as lovely.

Village BBQ Steamboat @ Puchong

Designed to provide both hot pot and BBQ simultaneously, Village Steamboat in Puchong is one place not to be overlooked when scouting for a joyful dinner experience. The thing about hot pot and BBQ is also the togetherness and conversations over the cooking time. What makes this halal (pork-free) restaurant stand out is the BBQ Pitt next to your hot pot table, their lively swimming prawns, and their excellent assortment of vegetables, meatballs of many kinds, mushrooms, meats and of course the fresh seafood- a favourite with the neighbourhood patrons, as well as fellow foodies.

The highlight, apart from the assortment on their buffet line is the fishing for live prawns activity. Dinner’s get to experience catching prawns that are swimming in their water tank and cooking them directly and either the hot pots or the grilling pits. I personally thought it was a little disturbing watching the prawns dying in such a manner but whatever works for the restaurant because people are completely abided to their opinions anyway.

You can easily score a table that is strategic before 6 pm but the crowd builds up after that. When seated outdoor, use the BBQ pit to cook your meats. Pick from their fresh array and eat with ease. The healthy flow warrants a convinced freshness for their ingredients because food poisoning is the last thing we want from a buffet dinner.

Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Just around the corner from the stretch of classy looking Japanese restaurants, Tori Doki at Desa Sri Hartamas aims for something a little more cheerful and joyous. The brightly lit dining room with a grill bar has a polished, contemporary feel, attracting a more mature clientele looking for a drink or two to go with a lineup of standard options like yakitori and tempura, as well as of the luxe ingredients and seasonal items.

1.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas
2.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas

From the grill bar occupying almost half the restaurant came well prepared skewers- all made with very fresh quality ingredients. Much of the action takes place on full show at the bar and must have is their signature of course. I recommend the most popular dish, Toridoki (RM 8). A skewer of thigh and breast wrapped in skin, with every bite tender and juicy to the last bit.

4.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas

The rest of the skewers are fantastic and the options were never boring. I’ve ordered the Renkon (RM 5) because I’ve always love lotus root. A random pick of Shitake (RM 5) and Ginnan (RM 4) caught me by surprise. Both the soft and juicy mushroom and chewy textured ginko were such a delight to nibble.

4.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas
5.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas
6.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Tori Doki isn’t all about the grilled skewers. Peckish clientele can order plenty of attractive dishes from the menu. Being Asians, we must have our rice. Hence the Camembert Cheese Yaki onigiri (RM 12). This Camembert cheese with grilled rice ball is tasty with mild flavour on its own but when topped with rich bonito flakes becomes a wonderful burst of texture and flavour.

7.Tori Doki @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Proteins ala carte dishes are extensive- Tori Nanban Age (RM 15) served enough of a fried chicken portion with Japanese sweet and sour sauce and tartar sauce that’s sprinkled with toasted sesame, and served with a fresh pile of shredded white cabbage. Also, Motsu Ni (RM 18) would appeal to offal lovers. This chicken intestinal stew comes with soft tofu that’ll easily melt in your mouth along with the piping hot broth.

Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara

Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara is probably the slightly better known joint for those spicy stir fried, and cheesy cheese cravings- one of those newest Korean food’s trendy additions to the booming dining scene within the Korean restaurants in Solaris Mont Kiara. More and more Korean restaurants are bringing this trend from Korea and Mr Dakgalbi is conveniently the place to visit when you have that cheesy craving.

1.Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara

2.Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara

Outdoor dining is probably the preferred choice for most people, but indoor air conditioning isn’t that bad – especially when the stir frying pan is well protected with a vertical metal ring, preventing any splattering from the pan frying.

3.Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara

4.Mr. Dakgalbi in Solaris Mont Kiara

This cheese perimeter gradually melts as the helpful assistant stir fry the combo of your choice. Additional rice or ramen is a common add on but to cut the carbohydrate intake, I’m good with just the vegetables and chicken alone. Besides, there are rice cakes in it and I do recommend adding some seafood to the dish. Otherwise, keep it simple with just the main and the side dishes that accompanies. And unless you want to splurge on food, a meal as such is RM 57.55 for the Cheese Dakgalbi, and RM 3.30 for a cup of green tea.

Morganfield’s Christmas 2016 @ Pavilion, KL

If it’s a classic Christmas that you’re after, look no further than Morganfield as they offer some very special treats this season for both dine in or home celebration and party, from a slow-cooked, turkey for a quiet dinner, to slabs of ribs for communal eating. If you have been following me on snapchat, you’ve probably seen the early Christmas celebration at the Morganfield Pavilion last month. With the restaurant transforming into a full blown party house, I enjoyed the warm and hearty dinner, as well as the lineup of games to brighten up the occasion.

According to Dr Jeffery Goh Sim Ik, the founder and group CEO of Grand Century Restaurant Sdn Bhd, “Christmas is a season to share and spend time with loved ones.” I couldn’t agree more and they have meticulously created several offerings that are perfect for that special get-together with friends and family, where one can savour the delicious dish in festive ambiance.

Datuk Jeffery Morganfield’s Christmas 2016 @ Pavilion, KL

Presenting the Jolly Christmas Platter (RM 249.90) that is enough for 3-4 or perhaps even 5 person if you are a small eater; this one consist ½ slab spare ribs (choice of Hickory BBQ, Garlicky BBQ, Smoked Peppercorn or Spicy Lemongrass), Jack Daniel’s Glazed Baby Back, Roasted Whole Turkey Drumstick marinated with herb yogurt basted with BBQ sauces, grilled Foot long Farmer’s Bratwurst sausage, grilled Herby Hog sausage, grilled Spicy Devil sausage, Christmas stuffing, seasonal veggies, garden salad, grilled corn on the cob, flat chips, cranberry jam and gizzard gravy. A smaller size of the same thing is their Mini Jolly Christmas Platter (RM 159.90) is also available and that is recommended for 2-3 person.

And to bring Morganfield home for this Christmas, they are sticking to the tradition and promises a raw weight of about 5.2kg whole Turkey, there is a Roasted Whole Turkey (RM 349.90) traditionally marinated and slow roasted with pork and nut stuffing by the side. Also accompanying this is sautéed paparika potatoes, cranberry jam and giblet sauce and served with seasonal veggies too.

Dae Sa Kwan @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Some very authentic Korean food in Desa Sri Hartamas puts this little enclave of food haven a must visit for korean food lovers. Dae Sa Kwan korean BBQ caters to plenty of korean expatriates you’d feel like you are actually in Korea when dining in the restaurant. Come nightfall, flocks of diners flood into the tiny restaurant and you can easily score some crazy good and fresh BBQ meats.

The teensy dining space fits about a dozen tables and with this spatial issue in mind, it’s not difficult to have this place smoke up in no time with grilling sizzles from the BBQ pit. Instead of conventional charcoal pit, each table is built in with electrical fire with no individual ventilator above your head.

Chicken arrived perfectly grilled from the kitchen with some slight delicious crisp at some edges whilst retaining the moist and juicy tender. And like many other korean BBQ joints, helpful workers are at your service alongside their friendly korean lady boss.

Let the experts do the grilling. Meanwhile those refillable side dishes and fresh lettuces were perfect accompanion to the grilled meats. Order your Pork Neck, marinated Chicken, or a hearty bowl of piping hot Kimchi Stew, and pair all that with someak 소멕 (Soju and beer).

The fresh, delectable dishes combine with a neat dining arrangement is good for anyone seeking delightful korean experience, if you don’t mind dining in poor vebtilation grilling space. Plus, there is no minimum order required.
