Blue Reef Fish and Chips Christmas Menu

 

When I had the opportunity to review Christmas menu all the way in Penang, I was unquestionably excited. When arriving at a fish and chips restaurant, I was looking forward to the seafood and they certainly demonstrated their forte. The classic Fish and Chips allocate several choices for diners and I picked the threadfin. Selling at RM 25, it served a decent battered fried fillet on a bed of fries with salad and tartar sauce by the side to make this plate a wholesome portion.

 

 

Others on the menu seemed attractive, although the Wild Mushroom Soup (RM 8) wasn’t quite impressive to wow a mushroom soup lover. Presentation was eye catching and that really elevates expectations on the taste and texture of the soup. In my opinion, a bit more garlic would do a great fine tuning.

 

 

And for the star of the day, there is the Roasted Turkey at RM 45 with a very clever mix of herbs and choices of leaves with slightly heavier taste to match. Towering the ingredients with mashed potatoes as base, and a plump sized turkey meat with few greens to embellish at top of the tower and bounded by thick gravy sauce.

 

 

All was amazing except the main ingredient which was supposed to shine on Christmas. The turkey needs a serious redo and I certainly hope this was a mistake but even so, was unjustifiable to serve a mistake like that. It was obviously over roasted making the texture though and chewing it was absolutely not enjoyable.

 

 

Located at the Straits Quay, the breeze from sea was a pleasant addition to the otherwise ordinary restaurant.

 

 

Approaching dusk was a beautiful weather to dine and drink and to really enjoy the tranquility and the lovely breeze from sea. Beverage menu was typical and pricing was decent and acceptable. Hot Jasmine Tea was priced at RM 5 and the beer at RM 11.

 

 

The experience was nonetheless still good although chances of me revisiting would not be too high. I would remind myself to order what’s written on the signature next time. Stick to fish and it should be fine. The Blue Reef Fish and Chips is located at:
