Absolute Thai Street Food @ MIdvalley Megamall

Currently in Thailand when drafting this particular post just makes it worst to have to describe my experience with Absolute Thai street food in Midvalley megamall. If I must put it bluntly, then the simplest and most accurate description is probably localised. All our order, including the drink, of which one of it is sold as the Thai coconut (RM 7), totally fail to live up to their reputation. Absolute Thai has been serving street food with comfortable indoor seating, mostly inside malls, but the eatery still qualifies as street food given the array of most popular and renown Thai street dishes. One of which is the Thai Chicken Porridge (RM 11.90) and the Beef Noodle (RM 15.90). Which turns out would be a delight to most Malaysians. Seasoning and taste profile are closely tied to the local palate so for those eager to satisfy the Thai street food cravings, I’d recommend skipping this one.

1. absolute thai street (2)
2. absolute thai street (3)

Lemon Grass (RM 4.90) drink weirdly has a wedge of lime and this one totally reminded me of our local limau ais. Safest order is probably the omelette but take note it isn’t a sharing portion.

3. absolute thai street (4)

In Thailand, even if you don’t know where to look, there’s still a high chance to stumble upon treasure. While Bangkok’s street food already claiming their throne to be legendary, with critics and bloggers from all over the world dropping reviews and praises, there is indeed something magical about their cuisine that seemed familiar to most of us in Malaysia but yet still never fails to create a little bit of surprises each time. I am hoping that there will be more Thai restaurants in Klang Valley that could give us the same surprises.

Alpacasso Café @ Aeon Mid Valley Megamall

Quirky and unusual cafes – there’s plenty in Klang Valley. But one that changes their featured theme every single month, Alpacasso café in Midvalley is the first. Yup, every month is a new cartoon character and we are not talking about just the décor and the interior, we are talking about the food as well. Sure, they may not be the ones that serve the best dishes in town, but for a meal with a difference, these super cute and adorable meals didn’t let me down.

It was not solid cuisine but it was a good café with very attentive service. The space itself was underwhelming; it was not nearly as detailed as most standalone boutique themed café, but still a nice little corner-café with nods to the character. Not to mention their character meals are beyond adorable. The variety is excellent, with everything from light meals to healthier ones as well as creative beverages that’s equally as cute. Garden Fresh Smoothie (RM 17.80) nailed it with fresh spinach, apple, banana blended with apple juice, coconut water, and honey. I always love cafes with something healthy and clean but if quirky is what you seek, check out their Cotton Candy Alpacassoda (RM 14.80). This ridiculous drink is so ridiculously cute it shows us how the cute cotton ball magically disappears into the refreshing soda but why on earth would I want to destroy something as adorable as this? Alas, it happened and I watch the fluff cloud shrink and disappear in seconds, leaving an edible pair of eyes. Sob. Fresh brews of coffee drinks are on the menu as well. Alpacasso latte (RM 14.80) maybe a little overpriced but you get a cute alpaca smiling at you to perk up your day.

Food is creative and kids friendly. Garden Green Salad (RM 19.80) serves a healthy platter of fresh greens with lovely dressings. Fluffy Alpacassa Pancakes (RM 25.80) stake up some pancakes with fresh fruits to satisfy the sweet craving, while the Alpacasso Curry Island (RM 26.80) is the savory delight of delicious Japanese curry rice with some greens and a cute Alpacasso face. Also starring at you is the White Alpacasso Burger (RM 28.80 for chicken patty and RM 29.80 for beef patty) with patty coated in teriyaki sauce and potato wedges to accompany.

Considering that the café opens as per mall operating hours, this is a great spot to hit at any time when shopping in the mall. Don’t forget to check out their merchandises, they are irresistibly cute and to die for. Or, get your mug for free when you order the Potted Cheesecake (RM 22.80).

Kim-Zen at Mid Valley Megamall

Midvalley is one of the mall that is always packed and forever short of spaces when it comes to parking bays. Working crowd at and nearby midvalley should be very happy with this Chinese eatery Kim-Zen, which is inevitably a good addition to budget meals; thanks to their affordable prices and lighting speed services.

8.Kim-Zen at Mid Valley Megamall

Simple and delicious varieties that are comforting is perfect especially for the dinner crowd with steam dishes very well suited for communal eating. Solo diners can enjoy lovely ala carte meals ranging from steam rice to noodles.Minced pork soup noodles (Rm 7.90) puts a good serving of noodle with chicken wing and egg and this is good if you are not in the mood for rice.

3.Kim-Zen at Mid Valley Megamall

Steam baskets of dim sums and buns are available for quick bites. BBQ Pork Bun (RM 4.50) serves with 2 pieces in a basket per serving portion but the plentiful fatty chunks inside the pork bun wasn’t something to my liking.

4.Kim-Zen at Mid Valley Megamall

I reckon those pork lover would fancy this. I am more of their Golden lava bun (RM 4.50) and this one is a joy that that comes in 3 pieces per basket.

5.Kim-Zen at Mid Valley Megamall

The menu is simple in such but concentrates to doing what their best at -steaming. There is traditional steam rice, double boiled soups, Yong tau fu, and their swift flow saves plenty of waiting time, best to cater the lunch crowd. Drinks were simple but nothing fancy or outstanding instead, pre- sealed cups of home cooked beverages like Sugarcane Chestnut.

Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

Food trends don’t end under any circumstances and the recent salted egg yolk craze are now in Madame Waffle. From Asian dishes like custard buns to the western delights like croissants; and now waffle, the trend still currently ongoing and picking up fast. Salted egg yolk has really proven its capability to blend with any food and now it’s gotten to waffles but whether or not this hybrid is worthy of the calories? Here is what we are about to find out.

1.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

When I was told there is salted egg yolk waffle with salted egg yolk ice cream, I’m thinking no way. Then I found out its real, Madame Waffle launched their own rendition of the coveted sauce- one that simple goes well with everything and anything bizarre, is the latest addition to this renown waffle joint. Salted Egg Yolk Waffle here will soon launch many a gushing Instagram post not only with their pretty plating, but the hypnotising thick golden yellow custard that escorts. Salted egg yolk wasn’t intense but was prominently obvious to many and at the same time inconspicuous to salted egg yolk devotee.

2.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

And get ready for the fear factor challenge (or a dive into paradise if you are huge durian fan) when the Musang Durian Crème Brulee is served right before your eyes. Or, you can smell it as it is being prepared. You would find a generous lump of durian Brulee, so a thin crusty crystallised sugar layer would crack to have a medley texture of both creamy luscious and crackling crisp.

3.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle

The spotlight must be their Matcha Signature . Hands down and hats off such consistency in the lovely texture – light but never too airy or dense in anyway. Tiramisu Waffle didn’t appeal to me, only because I am not a fan of tiramisu. But, know that they pull things off with waffles alone (Matcha and Cinnamon Classic Waffles) , satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

5.Madame Waffle’s Salted Egg Yolk Waffle
6.But know that they pull things off with waffles alone, satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

Let’s not forget the lovely flavour of those Ferrero Rocher Delight, every chocolate fan would approve this. Fruits topping balances the bitter sweet of chocolate and even though not as generous, the toppings blends beautifully both on the plate, and on the palate.

7.But know that they pull things off with waffles alone, satisfying bites without toppings are always a good choice

Beverage menu offers a medley of creativity with things like Passionfruit Mint Soda, Ice Matcha Blended,Lemonade Soda, and caffeine drinks. Once again, barista Feng was present so naturally coffee is a must.

Tim Ho Wan (Malaysia) @ Mid Valley Boulevard

After the soft opening of Tim Ho Wan last month, Tim Ho Wan celebrates their grand opening on the 18th December 2014. Standing distinctively at the boulevard in MidValley Megamall, classic dim sum is all you’ll find and while it may play safe (no ducks tongue here), the freshness of every item from their beautifully textured Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp to their crisp-layered Baked Bun with BBQ Pork is impressively astounding.

1.tim ho wan (5)

Quality and taste are top priority, using only fresh and quality ingredients, and made upon order to retain the flavour of dim sum. But these standards, combined with stellar service, come at a price: expect a bill that’s double what you’d pay in our usual dim sum restaurants. The grand opening ceremony kick started with the ribbon cutting, followed by of the lion dance to bring good luck and fortune.

3.tim ho wan (29)

Currently 5 outlets in Hong Kong and the rest at all over Asia, Malaysians are lucky to have this Michelin Star dim sum restaurant and its signature dim sums here. And with the seating on first come first serve basis, queue would be unavoidable. It is said that the first floor would be serving fine dining, making this the first ever private dining for Tim Ho Wan- a huge success with this inaugural location.

4.tim ho wan

Chef Mark and Chef Leong flew from Hong Kong to celebrate this auspicious grand opening, the 4 signature heavenly king were served alongside the other 4 dishes with the chef explaining the challenge in the making of each of these heavenly king signature dim sum.

5.tim ho wan (41)

Baked Bun with BBQ Pork (RM 10.80) is that most talk about item when it comes to Tim Ho Wan dim sum. The fact that it is not easily replicated, this one should be the must order. Pan Fried Carrot Cake (RM 9.80) showcases fresh ingredients and gourmet skills. Their team puts up redefinition of carrot cake, one that elevates from the usual that we are familiar with.

6.tim ho wan (45)
7.tim ho wan (46)
8.tim ho wan (54)

Vermicelli Rice Roll Stuffed with Pigs Liver (RM 10.80) is obviously rare and unusual to the mass since Malaysians mostly savior these rice rolls with BBQ Pork or Prawns. But, to those who accept offal, this one is a delicacy.

9. tim hor wan my

Another heavenly king item is none other than their Steamed Egg Cake (RM 7.80) – a must order if you ask me. Not many places have good steamed egg cake, nevertheless Tim Ho Wan manage to maintain and serves consistency.

DSC04607

The classic Pork Dumpling with Shrimp (RM 10.80),aka Siew Mai is the killer and a must order in almost every dimsum restaurants. It is no exception here as well. The generosity with the amount of pork wrapped alongside shrimp is stunning. Although not really my thing, but anyone who loves this classic dimsum would adore this one.

11.tim ho wan mid (2)

And albeit not one of their heavenly king, Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp (RM 7.80) would be the star item for most girls. The refreshing texture of spinach and sweetness of shrimp enclosed within the crystal clear dumpling skin is anytime a good replacement of poultry dimsum. Admits the classics, Tim Ho Wan also serves modern fusion in their dimsum. Wasabi Salad Prawn Dumpling (RM 10.80) with the mayo replaced by wasabi mayo for the extra kick.

12.tim ho wan (49)
13.tim ho wan (73)

If picking on tiny bites did not satisfy the bigger appetite, try the Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf. The fragrant from their leaf wrapping is a pleasant and this for sure should be able to fill you up.

14.thw

Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake (RM 6.80) refreshingly washes the oil from the hefty meat intake and when served cold, is absolutely lovely and most importantly not overly sweet. I applaud them for this.
