The Barn @ 1 MK (Mont Kiara)
The Barn at the 1MK Mont Kiara offers more than just your standard pub fare. With a menu that changes every now and that’s constantly improvising to cater for neighborhood patrons, expect dishes more akin of gastro pubs rather than just tapas and light bites. This happening hangout for those looking for a good night out offers dinner pairing with wine selection ranging from the affordable to the purely lavish.
And especially popular during night time, The Barn is an institution around these parts. There is a full pub menu, with options to share or dine solo, of Asian delights as well as Western fusion dishes.
Starting with bites like the Oven Baked Portobello Mushroom with bacon, Tomato &Cheese (RM 28) or the The Barn’s Pigs in Blanket (RM 27), both served on a bed of lettuce which in the end turned into a waste when the grease settles on it. Plus the Pork Satay with Asian Condiment (RM 30) with half a dozen of solid and gigantic serving skewers; these tapas were decent.
Also served with lettuce, the Scallop Wrapped in bacon with Passion fruit Sauce (RM 37) gives you a pleasant plump sizes of scallops that’s boasted with a hint of sweetness from the passion fruit Sauce. Although not an answer to pork prayers, the bacon wrap were ample to boast flavor for each bite.
The real deal to answer the pork prayer here would be the The Barn Crispy Pork Belly with Homemade Chilli Dip (RM 32). As the name suggests, this crowd pleaser were in fact good with or without the dip.
Certain tapas don’t come tiny, and what’s commonly served tiny everywhere else is huge here at The Barn. Spain’s iconic country ham appeared standing on skewers atop wedges of rock Melon. Jamon Serrano on Rock Melon (RM 58) is absolutely a strict sharing portion if anyone is interested.
Another sharing dish is the Smoked Salmon Pizza (RM 37), with a nice thin crust supporting a spread of rocket leaves with luscious amount of Smoked salmon slices sprinkled over with capers. There are cheese, onion, and mushroom, over some sour cream but all in correct ratio that is very pleasant to savour. The humble dish hits the spot simply by being flavourful and light.
And being extensive on the menu means pasta and burger to be offer. Aglio Olio with Crispy Pork (RM 33) serves some crispy pork belly, garlic, birds eye chili, butter, chopped fresh basil, cooked with white wine and most importantly the al Dante texture that I like. Satiate this wholesome portion with a glass of wine and that pretty much would make your evening lovely. The Barn’s All American Wagyu Beef Burger (RM 40) puts together plump wagyu patty, cheese, bacon, green salad and fries but this one didn’t leave any impression except for the patty which falls apart too easily when biting into it.
Also for the meat lover, The Barn Signature Oven Roasted Germany Baby Pork Ribs (RM 68) that is specially marinated then grilled to perfections, served with homemade BBQ sauce, potato wedges and mixed vegetable.
Moving to the dessert, my second stomach reset to full-on workout mode when I see what’s serving at the Barn. First, a chocoholic’s dream is the ultimate chocolaty treat with crispy exterior and rich gooey centre. Break into a pocket packed with rich chocolate that flows too quickly for any casual photo snapping. I mean, camera must be ready full on when shooting this Chocolate Volcano (RM 31).
Take note that all all desserts with ice cream scoops are served with Haagen-Dazs and the Deep Fired Banana with Gula Melaka Syrup (RM 29) is not excluded. Caramelized banana may seem ordinary but the aroma pleasures the nostrils on arrival and the texture was perfect.
And lastly, prayers answered with Affogato (RM 23), but not just your regular serving of a shot of espresso poured over a scooped of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream; this one is flamed with Sambuca. Enough said.
