Souka @ SS 15

Recommended for those who like their desserts fresh and additive-free, Souka Cafe at SS 15 Subang Jaya offers an irresistible accompaniment for cakes and churros with a fine selection of beverages to go with it. The room is singularly attractive, with well-spaced seating at both cosy indoor and the breezy outdoor.

The Sumatran Mandhelling, a medium roast (triplepick) that is low in acidity, and lingers with a hint of fruity when sipping, and most importantly, my latest favourite bean is the main attraction for me here. Make that into Latte (RM 9), you’d get the fantastic aroma and a very light coffee, also making it a good choice for tea lovers or anyone who can’t take strong coffees. Pour over is also available, hence putting this cafe in the favourite list for most hand brew lover. Serving their pour over using medium roast Kenya Karimikui, they are pricing reasonably at RM 10 and RM 11 respectively for hot and cold brew. Expect some smooth, medium acidity, with blackcurrant fruitiness that lingers at the end of each sip.

Tea lovers do not have to vex over their beverage; a range of soul calming flowers and leaves are available. Jasmine Green Tea, Earl Grey, Chamomile, French Rose and many more. Peach Green Sencha (RM 10) or Royal Chrysanthemum (RM 15), served in French press kettle might just be the perfect companion with books on a good, quiet Sunday afternoon.

The cakes are fantastic, and for sure warranting returning customers with the excellent quality and their skillful executions of ingredients. My slice of what may seem to be ordinary slice of Orange Cheese Cake was really amazingly memorable. Instead of the usual cream cheese slice everyone else’s is selling, they have the cheddar cheese cake which is absolutely amazing and perfect if you dislike the cream cheese version.

My extraordinary fate with Lichuen , got me bumping into her again while she was cafe hopping in Subang as well. And her slice of Red Velvet certainly appeared photogenic too.

Being photogenic alone though, don’t suffice to survive very well especially when the café is tucked at an enclave filled and full with cafes and cake shops blooming and opening every other week. Dig in and sink your teeth into some soft, and moist texture, filled with aroma and lovely fragrant of banana and walnut; the Banana Walnut Cake (RM 15). Thumbs up for this one.

And for the classic Spanish snack, chunky and skinny with thick hot chocolate dip; Churros (RM 8) here serves either classic or with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder, these lengths of choux pastry piped from a star-shaped nozzle and deep-fried are one of those good ones in Subang Jaya. It was not too greasy, and I’d a good pick compared to their cakes, if you want to keep the sweet to minimal.

Fresh and luscious use of top-quality ingredients are the key draw at this semi operating cake palour. Impressively baked with very little artificial substitutes, good use of chocolate fills their Salted Caramel Chocolate (RM 10) and this sweet dessert is best paired with their tea.

The selections of cakes were impeccably made with good ingredients and the tea selection also does the trick here. However, service can be frosty with most attentions showered upon those whom frequents and those whom are acquainted to the owners or staffs.
