Xenri D’River View @ Old Klang Road (Wisma Elken)
The key to delicious Japanese food is nothing but sincerity and good ingredients. And that is exactly what you get in Xenri Xenri D’River View at Old Klang Road (Wisma Elken). Tucked in along the busy road, the restaurant is an absolute tranquility upon entering with wood partitions for every nook; creating that tiny little privacy for patrons whilst indulging your meal.
Starting the meal with appetizers every kid (and perhaps most adults) adores, pealing and popping the peas are interestingly fun and delicious at the same time. Great to order when eating in a group especially if paring with a beer or two. There is no specific differences when it comes to these peas but Xenri’s Edamame (RM 12) serves at the right temperature with the decent sprinkle of salt, making it almost as pleasant as the Morokkyu (RM 10). This Japanese cucumber with fermented barli miso can be more authentic but is very lightly fermented making it enjoyable go with those crunchy cucumber.
Fish lovers, would love those perfectly grilled Unagi Kabayaki (RM 60) and Saba Shioyaki (RM 24). Both done skillfully to perfection with each bite juicy and moistly packed with freshness. Grilled Mackerel with Salt maybe a real simple dish but that ideal grilling time is what’s outstanding.
One of those other reasons that draw us to loving the Japanese cuisine is the creative match of ingredients in the rice rolls. Get fancy with the Unagi and avocado combi with the Dragon Maki (RM 35) and fall in love with the lineup of salmon slices from the Spicy Salmon Maki (RM 35).
Locals should be able to relate to this flavour of sweet and tangy that will curb the oil in the fried giant prawn inside this mango roll. Hawaiian Maki (RM 35) has that lovely aroma of mango and the perfect match of soft and crispy texture from both mango and breaded giant prawn; making this a delight to consume.
Tepanyaki lovers can indulge with the many variation and most are serve with rice and side dishes, putting something on the list for the solo diners. Meltique Beef (RM 58) serves a well balance of fat, making sure each chunk and bite is evenly distributed with perfect aroma and hot plate grill. The set is generous and easily feeds more than one person.
Kaki Nezuyaki (RM 24) can be a great idea for communal eating and those who fear raw oysters. The fans of oyster would usually prefer eating them raw to savour the freshness but this one wasn’t too bad of a choice for majority.
Sashimi lovers would know they’ve landed at the right place when tasted Xenri’s Sashimi platter. Otsukuri Mori (RM 88) serves 5 kinds of sashimi and as a reference, order any sashimi with ease because kitchen only serves the best and freshest to the diners.
Making sure to cater for all, the noodle selection was promising with Tori Soba (RM 22) or Inaniwa Udon (RM 18) which are also great on cold days.
And lastly, desserts were not too fancy but fine and decent with Ice Cream scoops (RM 10) of assorted flavours including Macha, Goma, Yuzu, Mango, Vanilla and many more.
