103 Coffee Workshop @ Sri Petaling
Coffee places in KL are sprouting like mushrooms growing overnight . A recent addition for coffee fanatics is this Japanese influenced coffee house that brings much joy to the Sri petaling neighbourhood. With simple Japanese influenced dishes on the lineup, this place sure is a gem. With good lighting and cosy ambiance, the 103 Coffee Workshop takes coffee brewing very seriously and serves a good spread of coffee and other beverages without caffeine.
Cakes are available but I do not recommend it, not at least till they figure a fine tune to it. Currently outsourcing the cakes, these cakes lack both texture and flavour. Red Velvet (RM 10) was a little too small in portion for sharing.
Good thing it was much better at the brew bar; their baristas were all well trained (at least at the point of my visit). Business was good so I don’t see barista doubling as waiters and I was fortunate to have the previous aeropress champion in the house; Feng (now you can find him occasionally at Madame Waffle ).
Plunging correctly together with their fresh beans, yields what you look for in Aeropress. My favourite bean is available so naturally we went with single origin Kenya AA Matro (RM 18) and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere GR 1(RM 18).I must say the hand brews are tact pricey but it’s not every other day you’ll find your favourite beans.
Of course we must also taste the houseblend. From the espresso machine, we tried the Café Latte(RM 9) and Affogato(RM 10). 103 workshop house blends comprises of 40% Brazil Mogiana, 40% Colombia Inza, and 20% Guatemala Antigua. Decency is a promise but the gimmick they throw into the affogato was complete failure. Mini magnum substitutes the scoop of ice cream and I think the melting-too-quickly chocolate coating and ice cream discordant with the round glass bowl. It disappears in seconds and drinking from that bowl was really cumbersome.
Not to worry if coffee isn’t really your thing because other concoctions are equally as interesting. Hot Earl Grey Chocolate (RM 8.50) would get girls screaming at. Instead the Rose Latte (RM 10) here wouldn’t be too attractive to girls only because it’s not too feminine. Guys would enjoy this equally despite the paltry rose scent. Of course they have much more than just caffeine.
Availability of parking bay is always a vex at this area but the good thing is, they open till late night so hosts good space for a chat.
