Lai Lai Casual Dining @ Kuchai Lama
When reviewing a Japanese restaurant in this neighbourhood, I stumbled upon this Taiwanese Chinese cuisine which I thought is worth a word or two to share in case anyone is interested. First of all, the prices are really reasonable. A glance at the menu and more than half of the dishes are pretty decently priced. Here is the set meal I had and for RM 20.80, there is a claypot of the famous three cups chicken as one of the main dishes. The chicken was surprisingly better than expected thanks to the very fresh chicken and the generous use of fresh basil. It was sweet and succulent and tenderly served at appropriate bite sizes.
Also included in the meal was a vege dish to balance the meal. There were not many choices from the package so I picked the Xiao Bai Chai, which is ordinary and palatably decent.
Also included in the meal were two bowls of boiled soup of the day of which in this case was the ABC soup. The generous use of ingredients made this soup really flavourful. There were potato, carrot, white radish, and plumped cuts of pork ribs.
The portions were slightly overwhelming for me for sure. But what I was more impressed with was their take away lunch boxes. They were real authentic; just like those in Taiwan. Not many Taiwanese cuisine restaurants here practice that. So that’s pretty cool.
I didn’t quite remember the beverage menu, but we went for simple green tea. The total bill came up to less than RM 22 (including tax) for 2 pax so I really think the price is rather reasonable. Because the ingredients used are really fresh, so that results in extraordinary outcome from the simplest dish.
The restaurant is a corner lot so there are ample spaces in between the layout of very casual seating which is sufficient to cater to comfort dinning. In case any patron in the neighbourhood decides to check them out, the Lai lai Casual Dining is located at:
